IckyATLAS Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 (edited) Amazing to see that after 16 years from when it was released by Ubisoft, and it was the last release of the successful Maddox releases, IL2-1946 is still kicking and alive. I would put CLOD in a separate category as it is basically a failed release just unplayable (I used it for just one day and cleaned it from my my disk), and has become a kind of fan project with a lot of improvements and it has become playable. IL2 Sturmovik GB is approaching 10 years but not yet reached such a longevity. Let's look back in time. The Oleg Maddox IL2 Sturmovik series started in 2001 and ended in 2006 with IL2 1946 . In 6 years they released 5 titles. Then came CLOD that was seen as extremely ambitious at that time, that took more than 5 years to develop ( nearly the same time as for the initial 5 releases) and was finally forced to be released in 2011 unfinished and unplayable, and it was understandable that this had a consequence on Oleg Maddox who left the company, so we will not consider this title here. Then came IL2 with Jason Williams with the IL2-GB series that started with Stalingrad in 2013. The last title was Normandy at the very end of 2022. Compared to CLOD, Normandy is a successful release, that needs still polishing but this has always been true of all the releases and it is pretty standard in this genre. In total Jason Williams released 5 titles like Oleg Maddox. After the last release Jason Williams left the company too but this time after a successful last release so the reasons are different and not related to the game quality. So the first IL2 series took 6 years to develop and the second GB series about 10 years. So history tells us that the second chapter is closed and that the future will be different. Actors may be different but in terms of game quality it could be for the better. At least it was so when going from Oleg to Jason. So wait and see. Edited January 22, 2023 by IckyATLAS
