RyanR Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 New joysick..... and I'm working on resetting the keybindings and all of that. Since we now have profiles for different A/C (thank goodness!), it is a bit more work to swap key bindings, even if you do it by cutting and pasting into the actual files themselves. Anyhoo, I got the 190A set up. The sat in a parked D-9, and got that set up. Trying to get the "feel" of the new stick. I did a quick one on one mission in the Dora, and all is well. Then I tried a 4-on-1 mission in the Dora. The MW-50 key isn't doing anything. WTF?? We'll deal with that later. I shot down the four bandits (low difficulty). Then tried to troubleshoot the MW50.... realizing that there's no MW50 gauge..... then it hits me. I'm not in a D-9!!! It's an A-6. That explained the lack of climb rate. -Ryan 3
Noisemaker Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I fly the Po-2... No, wait, that's not dumb, that's just being a glutton for punishment.
Ghost666 Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 No, I take my time and think everything out and plan before I do stupid stuff. 2
Leftenant_Soap Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I do dumb stuff almost every day! Young + Dumb -> Old + Wise

AndyJWest Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 If you want to experience 'dumb stuff' piloting at its best, try DCS. So many more opportunities to confuse yourself, with all those switches. Not that it takes anything complicated to confuse me sometimes. I spent a good 15 minutes yesterday trying to figure out why I couldn't get the Hind to drop cluster bombs, before I finally checked in external view and saw that the landing gear was down. 1

Myself included. I praise MSFS for its easy access checklist. I currently fly Lost paradise campaign made by Reflected. He really knows how to make a simple mission very long and complicated. The lack of checklist procedure from my side have bite me in my ass a couple of times. I mean who knew you get an engine fire out of forgetting to switch generator from start to normal. And it is quite frustrating that own stupidity end a mission when all other things went well. In special if you spent 1,5 hour in order to accomplish the mission but ended as a fireball in the jungle.

I recently did 2 cold starts at carrier with Hornet, and each time i splashed instantly in the water when i took off. I was getting pissed off since cold starting, loading weapons etc takes some time, but then i took off from land and noticed that my chair was pushing my stick little bit forward. Wanted to facepalm but couldn't because of VR headset. 3
spreckair Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 I am always fighting in a furball with my nav lights on. And I wonder why everyone is targeting me?
Guster Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Oh yes. Like forgetting the landing gear on final approach, accidentally shooting a rocket or dropping a bomb en route, or forgetting to set the RPM after take-off. I'm equally surprised every time it happens.
Dragon1-1 Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 This is one reason I'm a stickler about checklists when I fly. In fact, in DCS I even go through stuff that's not implemented, just to make sure I'm not tripped up if someone does add it one day. Practice, checklists and not being complacent helps a lot. I still forget, of course, but I can usually fix my mistake before it results in disaster.
Enceladus828 Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Occasionally in the QMB, I takeoff and climb out without extending the flaps on the bombers and see if I'm successful.

BornToBattle Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Wondering why all of a sudden after plugging in my flight stick to the USB powered hub it’s acting totally flakey and after 20 minutes of fooling around with settings realize I had left the yoke plugged in as well.

I have yoke and stick plugged in at the same time. I use different profiles for them 1

AndyJWest Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Tomcatfoolery. Hurling down the runway. Rotated at 140 kt or so. Or at least, that was the idea. Seemed reluctant to fly, though I managed to brute force it up eventually, just about. Can you see what I did (or rather, didn't do) here? ?

AND RIPPED YOUR STICK OUT!! (You fly in VR?)

I’ve always had this problem since day one.

You need as much runway as a space shuttle.

Particularly when loaded with full internal fuel, 4 GBU 16s, 2 external tanks, 3 Sidewinders and a LANTERN pod. I've just looked at the Tacview file, and I was doing over 200 kts when I finally got airborne. I'd actually only used about 2/3 of the runway (Bassel Al-Assad), but the remaining third was useful given the lack of climb - I was only 100 ft AGL at the end of it. With hindsight, I should probably have gone into afterburner... 1

Switching the P-47 up from cruise, to ground attack, to climb out is a lot of little things not needed to do in some other planes. I do like to do the P-47 "by the book", even though there are things to be skipped in IL-2. I've been doing PWCG for the first time. So, this is the first time flying with rockets. Coming off target, we had to engage a pair of 190's. The first tried to extend as I was on his 6, my eyes were keeping track of the other. When I finally caught the first and saw him burst into flames, I realized I forgot to jettison the empty rocket tubes. -Ryan

Kek somewhat relatable. Finally continued with my Luftwaffe carrier. Free Hunt over the landing beaches in Normandy. Joined the fight and after one kill my engine suddenly quits. First reaction was WTF but then it hit me... I was only in a regular G6 with one minute limit on emergency power... Glided back over the front line and made an emergency landing in a field. Most embarrassing hitchhike back to base ever.

Even though they were made out of PVC, they were only jettisoned if it was necessary. They were reusable. They also don't create a lot of drag being hollow and all. I read one mission report where a pilot in a P51 kept his 2x 500 lb bombs attached and shot down a 109 because he didn't need to turn. He made the bomb run with the rest of the flight and then went back home. I guess it was more important to pull the trigger than mess around with the bomb release.
Denum Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 What do you mean? In game or in real life? Ah who are we kidding. Yes to both! There's no better kind of excitement as the one experienced after you realized you just picked a bouquet of oopsie daisies!
