JG4_Moltke1871 Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Hi there! When I play my single player missions it disturb to see rivers and lakes more bigger than they are. I assume it’s an effect of the improved visibility. Is there any way turn it off? 3
AEthelraedUnraed Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 (edited) AFAIK the "improved visibility" only affects aircraft (and perhaps vehicles). What exactly do you mean with "bigger than they are"? Rivers and lakes should show up exactly as large as they are. Could you perhaps post a screenshot with the problem? I play in VR, it was a bit effort make some screenshots, but here it is ? When I am in normal view rivers in distance are looking like big surfaces of water. As I zoom in the scale of the river looks normal. This effect looks unnatural, looks from distance its the Nil, Volga or Amazonas but its just the Meuse ? When I see a plane I also see first a bigger contact and as I zoom in its more fine. I just assume its the same mechanic behind that. 1
-TBC-AeroAce Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 (edited) Good luck speaking to any of the people that frequent this server. This was something that I did notice. I think the problem is in the game's engine itself. Edited January 11, 2023 by -TBC-AeroAce
Dragon1-1 Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 That's the way the engine renders water at distance, this can actually confound things, since Volga's swamps near Stalingrad look like the ocean from far out enough.

It's not trying to make it look bigger - it's rendering a lower level of detail of the terrain as an optimization and some parts of the terrain mesh are culled, if you already have "distant landscape detail" set to x4 then there's not much you can do AFAIK - this also scales with presets, so it has a different result if your preset is balanced vs ultra. It's pretty much the same mechanism that causes the shores of water bodies to crumple up as lower detail meshes are used. Not related to the "enhance distant airplanes" or whatever assist. JG4_Moltke1871 Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 However, it seems there is no chance change this by settings. Thanks for reply’s!
blitze Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Have you tried Ultra Graphics preset with distant landscape detail at x4? In VR though you might have to drop render resolution. Always a compromise pending on one's hardware.
