FIVE-one Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Hi all, I've give another try at the ol' reliable 1946. I tryied two aircraft using the same Mk108 gun : the Me-163 and the Go-229. I was surprised and nearly confused at the Go-229 offensive capacity when flying right the Komet. Where is the error ? Is the Me-163 firing too fast or the Gotha having slower rate ?
Avimimus Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Hello! The Go-229 has the Mk-103 cannon - a high velocity gun with a low rate of fire. The Me-163 has a Mk-108 cannon - a low velocity gun with a high rate of fire. You can also find the Mk-103 on the Do-335 and the Mk-108 on the Me-262 - they are very different guns. In reality, the Go-229 might have been produced with four Mk-108 cannon (rather than two Mk-103 cannon) - drawings for both configurations exist. However, the initial design focussed on the Mk-103. Both guns are 30mm but the Mk-103 is much larger and fires a faster travelling bullet with a flatter trajectory.
FIVE-one Posted January 30, 2023 Author Posted January 30, 2023 Makes sense now. I thought the 108 was the only one in the 30mm yeet cannon club. Thanks for your explaination.
