jollyjack Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 I like that SopSnipe, but it seems really hard to do any serious gunshooting damage to any other plane ...

Guest deleted@83466 Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Sorry, but seems a lot like one of those desperately in need of attention threads.
Gambit21 Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 (edited) I just realized, Jack... you can pound ass in black and white!!! I mean, behind an airplane of course....ahem. Seriously though Jack...these aircraft are fabric and wood. It's easy to shoot right through and not hit anything. Go for the engine or pilot. Edited January 6, 2023 by Gambit21
BlitzPig_EL Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Meat or metal are what you want to hit. The biological control servo that operates the thing should be your primary target.

Well, as i like it i tried the snipe some more, got 4 pfalzes that obviously went down out of sight LoL. Shown on the exit score list. PS the Camel is not much worse for flying and shoots just as "bad". Guess been away from FC1 too long getting used to "in your face blowing up ww2 stuff". After all it's called Circus ... without Elephants i guess. 10 hours ago, BlitzPig_EL said: Meat or metal are what you want to hit. Zooropa_Fly Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Yes, sadly the days of hack-sawing SE5 wings off with a quick burst are behind us. Damn I miss those days ! But aye, as said above the pilots are easier to kill these days so aim for the cockpit. S! 1

J99_Sizzlorr Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 You can also set the gun convergence more to your liking. 1

Like Zooropa said i'd rather shoot off wings. With a bristol i had a gunner even shooting all the way down from a plane with no wings. BlitzPig_EL Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 (edited) Well, the previous wing damage model was clearly wrong. Aeroplanes we're shedding wings after taking tiny amounts of fire, or from G loads imparted by the gentlest of maneuvers. That flew in the face of the reality of WW1 air combat. In the real deal successful pilots aimed for the engine or the pilot, as these were the surest ways of bringing down these old kites. The rear gunners still firing while the plane is spiralling in is indeed a real problem. My solution, when attacking two seaters, is to take out the gunner first, then you can bring the kite down at your leisure. Edited January 6, 2023 by BlitzPig_EL 2

About a year ago, I (along with other community members) did a lot of historical research to see how WW1 aircraft were most often shot down. The results were really intriguing! As the sim stands now, I’d say it is much more in line with an accurate DM. 3
jollyjack Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 That picture (link above) is great, saw it before ... BTW it almost happens every time to me when i Snipe around near the ground chasing boogiemen LoL 1
PatrickAWlson Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 Interesting report. Of course, it's often impossible to know what cause a plane to fall out of the sky. Even some of the reports of a plane breaking up might be due to a dead pilot, with the plane coming apart because it is not really being controlled. 1 1
=IRFC=Jorri Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Note that the Snipe was named after a bird, rather than any supposed special ability to hit targets at a distance ☺️ 2
