Blitzen Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 (edited) I might be losing my mind but I thought someone recently had done a mod that enabled the early Spitfire 1 wings with 8 .303 machine guns as alternative armament. If so I can’t find it now. It seems like quite a big mod but it would be nice to use for BoB missions on the new BoN Channel map.? Edited January 3, 2023 by Blitzen Photo

Keep in mind its not a real 8 .303 mod (thats not possible in the game) instead it essentially nerfs the Vb's 20mm to better simulate the damage that would theoretically be done by 8 .303s. Unfortunately thats really the best that can be done with the game's current level of moddability. 1

Hi Blitzen, The mod "early1940-MG-FF_Spitfire-I_armament-mod-v01" is in first line to simulate the Spitfire IA as an AI controlled plane. If you want to fly Battle of Britain Spitfire as realistic as possible I suggest to fly the early cannon armed Spitfire IB. If you want to simulate the frequent stoppages of cannons of the IB you can try out my other armament mod: Spitfire Ib_BF109-F1-armament-mod-v01 (shoot only very short bursts to prevent stoppages) According Wikipedia: they were delivered to No. 19 Squadron beginning in June 1940. The Hispanos were found to be so unreliable that the squadron requested an exchange of its aircraft with the older Browning-armed aircraft of an operational training unit. By August, Supermarine had perfected a more reliable installation with an improved feed mechanism and four .303s in the outer wing panels. The modified fighters were then delivered to 19 Squadron
Blitzen Posted January 4, 2023 Author Posted January 4, 2023 I did have a question or two: does this mod change all gun settings on the Spitfire V when added directly to its proper folder.Second question : with a small change this might be enabled using JSGME so it can be enabled or disabled easily depending on mission or campaign?

Hi Blitzen, I have updated the mods to ...v02 (added the /data folder) to make them JSGME compatible. I have installed JSGME and tested the installation of the mods with JSGME. In the windows Explorer the folders seemed to me okay. But I have to say that this is the first time, that I created a mod for JSGME, so lets say it has status draft. Concerning the function of the mods: Currently ...early1940-MG-FF_Spitfire-I_armament-mod-v02: -for Spitfire changes projectile shell_eng_20x110_ap.txt: reduced armor piercing to simulate 7.7mm Browning -for Spitfire changes explosion he_020mm_130g_11g_object.txt to reduced explosive power of the 15mm MG151 cannon. -for BF109-E3 / BF110-C2 changes explosion he_020mm_130g_11g_object.txt to reduced explosive power of the 20mm russian cannon All weapons, that are using the listed ammo types are inflicted ...Spitfire_Ib_BF109-F1-armament-mod-v02 -for early Spitfire IB changes weapon ac_eng_hispano_mkii.txt by creating frequent stoppages (shoot only very short bursts!)
