Hi everyone...   not totally new , but haven't been able to get it running for quite some time...  I now have a fresh install.   What patches should I install?   Is there a no CD patch ?

I'd suggest picking it up from GoG when it is on sale sometime! It is convenient and doesn't have DRM or require a CD in the drive.
