An odd one but now resolved. VR framerate drop

An odd one. Not flown my VR set up for around a month. I used to run under Steam VR but changed to Open XR using Open composite before my break away from the sim.

I have and RTX 3080  CPU i7-10700k @3.80GHz  and a Reverb G2  screen res 3440 x 1440

Under steam I had the sim running on ultra settings and was getting 45 FPS in VR using MR,  the steady FPS of 45 is more than enough for single player missions etc.

switching to Open XR didn't give me any uplift on that frame rate.

fast forward, one major IL2 update later and a update to my nVidia G force of drivers for the card and I'm now running Il2 at 30FPS, same settings, everything the same, other than driver change and update.

Head scratching time.  If I locked the MR to 45FPS using the XR tool  all was well again, unlock back to 30 FPS. Still down 50%.

Tried again this morning. Checked that open composite was set up for Open XR, as I always do and there was an update for the dll files that downloaded automatically.

Hey Presto! everything was back to normal. I can now get 45 locked or unlocked using MR.

Not sure if anyone else has had a similar experience?

Cheers

Paul

Another one to add in. Some guides recommend dropping the resolution of your PC screen in the graphics set up as way to release that extra bit of resource. Others say that gains, if any, are negligible.

just tried it with my PC. Dropped down to the minimum res in the graphics set up and the game kept hanging as I went to launch, maybe 3 times out of every 5, Initially I wasn’t sure what was causing it. I’m using open XR, composite and VREM. Process of elimination and the culprit was the screen res.

gains are minimal as far as I can see, if indeed there is a gain in FPS.

but, if you do head down that route and the sim hangs whilst launching…you know what to do.

Sounds like a coincidence to me.

There was no update on Monday, and the most recent update is ... a documentation change.

All other updates are from 1-2 month ago, and they are all related to controller input (nothing with rendering or performance).
