Recorded in 1440p through his VR headset using the Work-In-Progress Virtual Reality Visual Update beta.

"We meet the feared Me109, a flight of Hurricanes are under attack and we scramble to to save then, unlike our meeting with the Me110, here we actually do quite well."

All well and good, but it'd be nice to get an actual update on progress (Or an actual game update) instead of more of these amateur videos.

With BMS just getting its VR update, now would be a great time to piggyback off that release for some good PR.

What you are seeing is the current state of progress with VR and the Visual Update.

I.e. the game functions in VR with the typical missions.

As I have noted in my recent post, the Visual Update package, which includes VR, will not be ready for 2022.  We hope to have it in the first quarter of 2023... but that is subject to progress.

Any chance of more indication of what is left to do, how long you think it'll take (beyond "hoping"), what the barriers are or what issues you foresee, what the testing schedule looks like etc?

If you look at the updates, you can see we have been displaying the progress in the various elements.

So for example, trueSKY, VR, 4k cockpits, etc.

So that's a no then. Thanks for the reply.

There is an entire separate forum dedicated to that tracking progress (ATAG). They do not need to relay bugs and there fixes that will never see the main release to people outside of the beta. And the reason it's closed to is because some people with reactionary tendencies on here would be freaking out about bugs as if they were unexpected.

Couldn't agree more, however I don't believe that was a request made by Reddog? I am just re-reading what he posted:

Can't see anything related to your reply.

Ultimately, it arrives when it arrives. Can't stop people from asking questions, and there was certainly nothing controversial in Reddog's question, the reply didn't answer anything, but this is up to the team to decide what they want to answer and the information they wish to offer, in regard to his question it's fair to say nothing was offered.

Onwards and upwards, here's to 2023 being that 'special' year :)

I think you misunderstood the question. I wasn't asking for details on specific bug activity, I asked "Any chance of more indication of what is left to do, how long you think it'll take (beyond "hoping"), what the barriers are or what issues you foresee, what the testing schedule looks like etc? ".

VR's almost complete, the issue with Pimax has been resolved, we're just squashing the last few bugs which shouldn't take the 3 guys working on it more than a couple of weeks.
TrueSky is done and we're really happy with it, the AI can't see through the clouds and it changes the way the game feels.

Speedtree is still a problem, we haven't made any progress on that to resolve the upside down trees and currently no one is looking at it, but once VR is completed we'll switch to this. Difficult to say how long this will take to fix and this is the piece of work that keeps me sweating at night.

4k cockpits and terrain, the terrain is done and the cockpits are being finalised, the work is done just needs QA and releasing to the beta for testing. That should take 2-3 weeks and is completely independent to the other items as the people looking at this do not do the other work at all.

Overall I've said we're hoping for Q1 2023, I think this is realistic based on the progress with the non speedtree elements but we will not release the visual update without speedtree, so prolonged problems with it will necessitate slippage of that timeline and we should know what is and isn't feasible by the middle of February. We'll update at that point.

***Entirely made up and illustrative quote written from the perspective of TFS

You see how an update like that doesn't have to be so cloak and dagger? Or so detailed as to give specific bug detail? I don't see an update of that nature causing a reactionary tendency either but I can't speak for anyone but myself, personally I'd appreciate a bit of transparency and candour.

The development process that currently occupies TFS is transparent enough thank to the quantity of closed-beta material we have now: plenty of screenshots and videos. Basically we know that almost everything is implemented except from the last version of SpeedTree.

Within TFS development happens at a slow pace, we know that, so I see no point in permanently demanding information from the devs. Two years/one year ago complaints arose because of the lack of shared material related to the implementation process of the visual update. Today we have much of such material and simply need towait that at some point during 2023 the visual update reaches the players' version of the game. But some keep demanding and complaining. Things are very clear regarding who is who among the community of players.

Devs are frankly nice enough to talk at all on here and “So that’s a no then” is an obviously rude reply of frustration. Its just not that cool is all… this isn’t the first time a game has been delayed lol…
