AngryBeaver Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 I really want to love the StuG and have tried to use it multiple times but some things would make a welcome change... 1)Too fragile! I've bumped into some small trees and bumped into buildings only to get gearbox and track damage! Can we have this changed? it shouldn't be that fragile. I should be able to push over trees to help cammo the StuG. 2)She seems really slow! Stugs are of a lower weight than a panzer 3 due to not having a turret and should be able to climb hills and have a little more speed/agility, but they seem to be the same as panzer 4s. 3) The StuG depends on using its turn radius to help point its gun and it is not smooth at all, it jumps around and it is extremely difficult to find you target as you can't smoothly turn the hull to get good aim. She also is a little bouncy when taking her off road at speed. Can we have the turning ability/bounciness smoothed out a but please? 4) It has the smallest key hole like sight of any tank in the game, can we have the sight to the main gun a little larger and maybe the ability to have the distance of the gun setting on the hud? the real gunners could always look at the range setting and I know that it displays when you adjust it but it disappears shortly after the adjustment, on the other tanks you have it constantly on the reticle and it would be nice to know what you range is just looking at the sight. The Stug is a great addition but she needs a small amount of love to iron out the play-ability of it. 1 2
Frinik22 Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 She???? You are ascribign feminine gender to your Stug??? No wonder he is not performing well. Thanks to your deliberate misgendering he is suffering from gender dysphoria and will need some treatment.☹️ 1 4
Hanu Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 Well, I personally prefer to get into "she" than "he" so that's ok for me. 2
Lofte Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 StuG = SturmGeschütz. Das Geschütz. Not Die or Der) So you have to use "IT" :)
Frinik22 Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 In German yes but in English you would use either feminine like for ships she is the preferred form or masculine like usually for armour. Nayway i was just joking!
ShampooX Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 @AngryBeaver Just checking here...but you know you can use LSHFT+T to "nestle" to the gunsite and then it's as big as all the others, right? You can use your mouse wheel to zoom in even more from there. I agree though, track aiming the gun is very jumpy and should be smoothed out a little
AngryBeaver Posted December 30, 2022 Author Posted December 30, 2022 Hey Shampoo, Yeah i do nestle, the only issue is if you check is that the black areas are a little more on the StuG than the other tanks it seems. I use the "zoom" on the panther and that black is almost gone, it has a little more on the StuG...... It doesn't have a turret so all the help you can get is worth it...

What would help especially, would be, if it had the scissors periscope for the gun commander and the rotating commanders cupola for it, which it had in real life. With that help, the commander would be of real help, when buttoned, because of enemy fire, as he would be able to look around with the magnification of the scissors periscope, plus he could exactly determine distances. 2
AngryBeaver Posted January 4, 2023 Author Posted January 4, 2023 Love the StuG but I think the Devs missed the point and the success of the StuG. She is slow off road and I know she did around 40kmh max but being light she should go faster than the Pz III and Pz IV off road, right now she does the same speed, even climbing small inclines it is too slow. The angle of the StuG's armour should be bouncing most shots at a distance but it usually gets penetrated by 90% of hits. Just some things to think about for the devs..... 3
FeuerFliegen Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 I've been wondering about benefits of StuG since I recently purchased it; what are the benefits in the game besides the fact that it's slightly shorter, so it's a smaller target?
Arditi Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 I see the stug as very hard, in multiplayer from the front it can withstand many shots from t 34 sherman and kv even from churchill at a distance in normal combat I won almost all the frontal combat with the stug, unless they shoot from the side. The scope zoom is very good, I did not make a comparison but it is even better than the PZ 4 and 3. The commander's periscopes are very good. The last stug I lost in multiplayer I faced 2 t34s and 1 sherman at the same time at a distance of 400-600 meters I was able to destroy two and finally lost with the third but the stug resisted many piercing impacts and HE 1
AngryBeaver Posted January 4, 2023 Author Posted January 4, 2023 (edited) I wish I had the same success as you Arditi! 90% of the time I get 1 shotted by Shermans/T34s and I have my frontal armour facing the enemy tanks. Strange! Not asking for a Super uber Tank, just the chance to put in its correct historical slot in the game. I'm sure the Dev's are working hard to massage it into what it needs to be. Great job and thanks you for bringing this awesome tank into the game Dev's! Edited January 4, 2023 by AngryBeaver Spelling
Frinik22 Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 The Stug, other than being used as mobile artillery which was its original purpose, is good for ambushing Sov. tanks thanks to its low silhouette, hard-hitting gun ( Is it the G model with the StuK 40 L48 75 mm in game?) and excellent optics. but it's not a slugger designed to face tanks like the T34 or Sherman in close range, one-on-one battles. The upper glacis is only 30 mm thick and the cupola 50 I think. The sloping front is 80 mm so gives you good protection but APCR rounds will defintely punch through below 1000 metres You are meant to use a concealed position, take a few shots, then quickly move to another posiiton before you are spotted by enemy tanks. Naturally the AI is unpredictable and can sometimes spot you through foliage and trees (?????)so it's hard to recreate real-life combat situations. Normally your Stug should be accompanied by tanks rather than operate alone.

Ironically, StuG units when asked to rate from best to worst which other kind of unit was better to work with universally picked Panzer units as the worst, citing lack of communication and a refusal to acknowledge the limitations of the StuGs in manoeuvering engagements. More likely you should be screened by allied grenadiers and panzergrenadiers with occasional runners coming up to your StuG to report contacts and asking for fire support against specific threats.
Frinik22 Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Mind you the earlier versions of the Stug the C and D ones swere basically used as mobile artillery and infantry support roles. Only with the growing shortage of tanks in mid to late 1942 and 1943 did they become assigned the role of tank killers and equipped with higher velocity L43 and L48 75 mm guns.
