We shall see. Will it still offer a Display Port Connection? Or will they also move to USB 3 and/or wireless. Edited December 27, 2022 by dburne
rossjoe Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 already waiting for it. I think they are going for the wireless this time.

Would be nice to see a headset mfg finally offer both a display port (not USB) connection and wireless option. If I am going to run a cable which is almost always my preference, I really want to plug that puppy up my GPU's butt! I mean seriously, if someone hooks up via cable to PC , then they are obviously running PC and have a GPU with display port connectors. They need to be used! Native display port will always be a little better than a USB connection. But nooo they all want to follow Meta's lead. Nuts. Edited December 28, 2022 by dburne 1 2
TheSNAFU Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Good idea, follow Meta over the cliff…. No idea why if they include a usb connection that they wouldn’t opt for the better DP connection. Inquiring minds want to know!

Perhaps usb port is little cheaper and Meta wanted cost cut all they could to sell at low price. Who knows though. Edited December 28, 2022 by dburne

Who knows though. Yeah maybe it is cost driven. Wouldn’t shock anyone that cost takes precedence over quality. Tis the way these days. But I’d guess most of us would gladly pay the few extra bucks for a better device. 1
simfan2015 Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 At least 1400 USD... Vive XR Elite : https://mixed-news.com/en/htcs-new-headset-will-reportedly-be-called-vive-xr-elite-and-will-cost-1400/
dburne Posted January 2, 2023 Author Posted January 2, 2023 I will wait for the official unveiling on Jan 5th. Will be interesting but don't think anything is going to surpass the Aero for me anytime soon. Which is fine with all I have invested in that thing.
simfan2015 Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 I would be interested to hear about your take on this new VIVE XR HMD. Who knows ... maybe it does blow even your Aero out of the water (not that I expect this to happen) !? By the looks of the new VIVE it is quite "attractive", let's just hope all the rest is just as interesting. 1
simfan2015 Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 The Shiftall MageneX is one helluva competitor for the HTC Vive XR ! ... but is no standalone, only SteamVR Wired : https://en.shiftall.net/products/meganex https://vr-compare.com/headset/shiftallmeganex

This thing looks very interesting, gotta love that form factor. Plus a regular display port connection (screw you Meta). I will be looking forward to these hitting the market and reading of user's feedback on it. Edited January 4, 2023 by dburne 1 1

Even longer than Pimax's tease and then delay delivery antics IMO. Edit: Just noted that the specs now include a price of $1699 so very much in Varjo Aero territory. Also quoting a Mar-April delivery time but I will believe that when it actually happens. Like the Varjo Aero, only works with NVidia GPU's, not supporting AMD etc. GPU's. Saw a report, quite some time ago, that they would not be selling them in Australia ? Edited January 4, 2023 by RAAF492SQNOz_Steve Price and other rants! 1
simfan2015 Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 (edited) Those new Panasonic megane oled pancake lenses seem to be maybe the best ever made for a consumer vr hmd. However there are no Controllers included in this megane X hmd. The new HTC vive looks more Like a game oriented vr headset, with game Controllers, than this megane X that is more of a social metaverse type!? Edited January 4, 2023 by simfan2015 1

simfan2015 Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 (edited) Thank you dburne for the link! The new vive looks promising, but why no OLED and why only 1920 resolution in 2023 !!??? Was HTC maybe afraid to threathen the quest pro??? Edited January 5, 2023 by simfan2015 1

No telling they are kinda like Valve in they prefer to march to the beat of their own drum rather than others.
chiliwili69 Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 I was following quite closely this device definetely I will not try it. The 1920x1920 per eye resolution is inferior to any G2 or Pico4 or any other top device. I think this was clearly a wrong step. Also, when they say 110º FOV, normally they refer to diagonal. So, this is also quite inferior to my current Index. At the last important thing is the lack of DisplayPort connection. Everything is based on the Wifi or USB-C cable and compression methods. And the limit of the XR2 Gen1 for H265 is 150Mbits. Whoever will consider this for IL-2 I think the Pico4 is a much better option in terms of resolution, FOV and price.

You will likely not see an increase in FOV over the Index anytime in near future. Other than Pimax of course.
simfan2015 Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 As long as wireless is not on your shortlist and for PCVR il-2 the new MeganeX seems to be a great option. But for me, personally, now that I have tasted the freedom of the Wireless PICO 4 headset I don't think I will ever be pleased with a thethered-only solution and surely also not the new Vive xr Elite for the many other reasons !
