=THORN=Sphere- Posted December 24, 2022 Posted December 24, 2022 Regarding frame times with the Quest 2 using the link cable. I average around 40, 50 without the cable. Is this normal or seem high? Basic specs - 5600x, 3080, 3600mem, Install on an m.2. Thanks in advance.
Arioch_RN Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 Hi, my specs: i7 8700, 3070ti, 32GB RAM at 3200MHz, m.2, Quest 2 at 72Hz rendering resolution 4704x2384 using Link cable. Playing on the Normandy map today, I was seeing App Motion-to-Photon Latency of around 45ms and a performance headroom fluctuating between 0 - 10% Hope that helps!
=THORN=Sphere- Posted December 26, 2022 Author Posted December 26, 2022 That's great. Thanks for the reply Arioch. Sounds very similar to mine but I've seen numerous people mentioning frame times of 10-15 with other headsets. I'm wondering if there is some other frame time other than photon latency? It's that dam microstutter. I've found that increasing the graphics can actually smooth things out a little as it brings the FPS closer to the 72hz. I would like to be able to peg the FPS to 60hz and see if the game becomes even smoother. Pretty sure it's not effecting frame time but more the FPS.
Arioch_RN Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 (edited) I’m definitely no expert in these things and what to look for - I just flash up the Oculus Tray Tool and have a look at the performance graph, and if I’m sitting at 72Hz with a bit of headroom then I’m happy If it’s one of the other settings or graphs I should be looking at then I’ll have another look. Same here, I just dabble and wait to see if things feel different. Switching the HUD off makes a hell of allot of difference to frame times, specially in some where like the EU server. My headroom bounces around a considerable amount, on the menu screen it sits at 70% In game though it swings from between 0% to 30%. Least it very rarely goes into the minus and I don't get many frame drops.

I’ve just jumped back into the Normandy map, quick mission start with plenty of AI flying around over Brighton, but this time I used the App Render Timing overlay from the debug tool: Framerate 72Hz with very occasional drops to 36Hz App render GPU time 11~15ms App render CPU time 6~12ms Queue Ahead time 7~11ms I wish I knew what reading is the important one ?
=THORN=Sphere- Posted December 27, 2022 Author Posted December 27, 2022 That looks 5 hours ago, Arioch_RN said: I’ve just jumped back into the Normandy map, quick mission start with plenty of AI flying around over Brighton, but this time I used the App Render Timing overlay from the debug tool: Framerate 72Hz with very occasional drops to 36Hz App render GPU time 11~15ms App render CPU time 6~12ms Queue Ahead time 7~11ms I wish I knew what reading is the important one ? That looks far better in all honesty and the frame times swing looks good too. Your getting a maximum of 6 where I've seen people complain because they get over 15ms swings. When I get my graphics card back from repair (2 weeks or so ?) I'll confirm my findings as well. Thanks again Arioch. ?
