DFLion_’RAF144Wing_arrives in Normandy’

This mission is historical, refer to page 229 in Johnnie Johnson’s book ‘Wing Leader’ and read about the actual mission. RAF144 Wing had arrived at the forward airfield at Saint Croix, Normandy. At night, the beach head was being bombed heavily by the Luftwaffe. Johnson’s pilots were lacking sleep, though during the day mounting several air patrols.

On the morning of the 9^th June, Johnson decided to fly with Wally Mcleod’s Squadron to cover the ever increasing Luftwaffe presence over the beach head.

Once in the air they were vectored towards the south of Caen where their radar had picked up a large gaggle of enemy fighters approaching.

You can put your Spitfire on autopilot and watch the take-off. There is still a bit of activity over the beach head with the last Luftwaffe bombers being chased away by American Mustangs. Yesterday, Focke-Wulfs strafed their airfield with one being shot down and the pilot captured – Johnson warned his pilots that the same surprise attack could happen again today.

As a Canadian I'm always appreciative of the contribution of such great RAF squadron leaders as Johnson, and being able to fly missions such as this which are based on actual research is amazing. Played this mission and it is quite enjoyable, thank you

 

But I noted a problem, if I chase the first target appearing, then it is a complete disaster for AI spits : 7 are shot down for no ennemy  (I shot 2 in my second test anyway).

 

It would also be very nice if you provided us a link to the skin you used, I was unable to find any

Next try, I will go for te single seats !!!

This time I went for the fighters

It was a great furball, 10 spit vs 9 "Jerries" shot down.

Whta a nice mission !
