Checking mod install?

Is there a .log file or something somewhere that indicates whether a modded file was successfully loaded?

No there isn't. Usually the mod is to do some definite change in game so it is self evident. Past that it's probably just manual inspection of files and folders. You do have mods switched on in game settings yeah? That's one that even experienced users trip over every now and then.

Thanks. I was modding some files where the changes weren't visually apparent so it wasn't easy to confirm they were indeed loaded, but eventually I figured out how to confirm it.
