Flying_Colander Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 Type of improvement: Gameplay/Immersion Background: On January 21, 2020, the IL2 team made it possible for third parties to read the telemetry data produced by the game. This allowed motion simulators and software like SimShaker to work. A good number of effects such as engine rumble, stalling cues, gunfire rattle and the movement of control surfaces, could now be felt through movement cues or vibration. All these are terrific additions for those of us who fly with motion control rigs or feedback. Explanation of proposals: Could the very busy developers implement one more trick: a flak strike or near by burst telemetry effect. I imagine two effects. One would simulate a flak burst close enough to 'rock' the aircraft and the second would be a hit. The game already produces some sort of information to register and calculate the damage of a flak hit in the Damage Model. Maybe additional vectors such as pitch, yaw and roll might be included into this data packet? A near miss burst might have the same information only at a lesser 'amplitude.' For instance, close flak adds +1 and a strike, +2. (If you wanted to get fancy, these modifiers could simulation medium damage +3 to heavy damage +4 and catastrophic damage, such as a wing root damage, at +5.) This is the concept anyway as I am ignorant of the programming vocabulary. Benefits: I think the benefit to immersion would be immense even if the bass shakers just gave an energetic kick and a very energetic kick. Between the sound and tactile cues, I think many pc pilots will be jumping out of their skins. Flak barrages must have been horrific experiences. This relatively simple(?) addition would help convey that terror and dread. Afterword: Polling on this subject has 100% of respondents clamoring for this tweak. We shall see what 2023 brings... Cheers, Flying Colander 3
