453=Thornley Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 (edited) The Spitfire Mk. IX carries 386 litres of fuel in real life and in game. The Spitfire Mk. XIV has a fuel gauge that reads up to a maximum of 80 imperial gallons. If you start a quick mission and add 380 litres, the fuel gauge will show about 78 gallon and start dropping as soon as you start to fly. If you add 390 litres, the fuel gauge will show a full 80 gallons and start dropping as soon as you start to fly. If you add the full 505 litres available to the Mk.XIV, the fuel gauge will show a full 80 gallons and start dropping as soon as you start to fly. A quick test at 7000m, autolevel on, 100% throttle and prop pitch. If I started with 390 Litres, after three minutes exactly on the cockpit clock, I had 75 gallons left (23 litres of fuel burnt if 3 minutes!). If I start with 505 Litres selected, after three minutes exactly, I also have 75 gallons left on the fuel gauge. Solved... After reading the pilots notes for the real Mk XIV, it states the two wing tanks can be manually transferred to the main tanks after the red line (at 60 gallons) is passed. In game, If you take 390 litres (empty wing tanks), the fuel gauge will continue on past 60 gallons without stopping. If you take 505 litres, the fuel gauge will start refilling when you hit 60 gallons as the fuel is transferred from the wing tanks. Maybe an explanation should be added to the aircraft details in game. Edited December 21, 2022 by 453=Thornley
Gingerwelsh Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 (edited) There are 2 gauges on the XIV. The one on the right empties first, then the wing tanks are transferred for a total of 112 gals and 1.9 hrs endurance.. There is a placard above the gauge with a sort of explanation. ..
