Brizzly Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 Hello all. I've been getting consistent crashes in the 109E4 trying to play on the Channel map. This includes both quick missions on the channel map, and trying to play through a Desastersoft campaign (tracking it's not supported). Having flown a couple of quick missions on the Tobruk map with both the F4, and the Kittyhawk, I haven't had any issues. Could this be related to the Desastersoft campaign? Or maybe something else? Included the crash log from one mission. The other was too large to upload, but it consisted of 836242 lines of this error: [12:56:35] System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Brizzly Posted December 19, 2022 Author Posted December 19, 2022 Spoke too soon, just had a crash on the Tobruk map in an E7 quick mission against Hurricanes.
9./JG52_J-HAT Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 Tried clearing cache? File integrity check from Steam (will probably wipe out the Desastersoft campaign files in the Steamapps folder)? Make sure when you installed the Desastersoft campaigns it didn‘t create a different 1C SoftClub/il-2 Cliffs of Dover folder (there should only be one) or made some unwanted changes to your ini files in there. I‘m thinking that these campaigns having been made for original CloD many years ago, some of the things it may add or change might not be compatible with Blitz/Tobruk in its current state. It must also be more general stuff, because E-7 and Tobruk map weren‘t a thing back then. I‘m assuming your game was working properly before having installed the campaigns. Maybe that‘s worth testing if not sure.
Brizzly Posted December 19, 2022 Author Posted December 19, 2022 I had the occasional crash prior to trying the Desastersoft Campaign install. Clearing cache seemed to be a good way to prevent them, but now I still get the crashes even if I clear cache before every game start. I may try a fresh install to see how that goes.
LLv34_Flanker Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 S! Basic stuff is to turn off Steam Cloud and the Steam controller thingy as well as any overlay. Those are known to cause issues. MSI Afterburner can cause problems as well, not only in CloD.
Brizzly Posted December 20, 2022 Author Posted December 20, 2022 (edited) Thanks for the reply. Steam Cloud is unchecked and I have Disable Steam Input selected under the Controller tab. After a complete fresh install, had a crash in the Tobruk QM E7s vs. Hurricanes. This time, no weird messages in the log, the game just froze with the sound still playing. I had to end task with Task Manager. Edited December 20, 2022 by Brizzly
9./JG52_J-HAT Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 Bummer… try renaming your 1CSoftClub/CloD folder and let the game recreate it. See if it works any better.
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 (edited) Gosh this game needs its own launcher and new interface/ui so badly. Edited December 28, 2022 by drewm3i-VR

A question: Do you have the game installed on your main C Drive or on another drive? Some players have issues if the game is installed on other than the C Drive. Ideally it should be on the C Drive and the C Drive should be an SSD.

Can you post a logfile of the crash from the TOBRUK mission. Its clear there is a problem with the E-4 in the Desastersoft campaign. Those Desastersoft campaigns were created before there were multiple changes to the textures in the cockpits of most aircraft, including the E-4. So we can't guarantee they will work. When we release our Visual Update these campaigns will be even more out of date as multiple elements in the cockpits of many aircraft will be in full 3D, not a mix of 3D and 2D. Are you using a custom skin from that campaign? You might consider substituting a more recent skin. Do you have multiple installs of the game? Are you running the VR Beta? Or an earlier version of the game? Best to have only one version. You should also not have the original CLIFFS OF DOVER installed, only BLITZ. Uninstall the original game and delete all the folders... as well as the cache file. I would suggest also you verify the integrity of your install and again, delete the cache file.

Team Fusion Buzzsaw Posted January 1, 2023 Team Fusion Posted January 1, 2023 Are you running the game in VR? Are you running the VR Beta? You should not be... you should not have multiple versions of the game. The cockpits are different in the VR Beta and this can cause conflicts. I see Steam's VR program running in the background... in fact multiple examples. Turn it off in your Steam preferences. No Steam Cloud, no Steam Overlay, etc. Just basic Steam. You have a number of other programs running in the background which are unnecessary and maybe eating resources. Some examples: SearchProtocolHost.exe (This software program is from Microsoft, and you may see this running continuously in the background on your tasklist. If you see this and see it consuming a huge amount of resources (or if it is slowing your computer down, you can run services.msc and disable it). This was an old issue that Microsoft was reportedly trying to fix.) DipAwayMode.exe (Asus program which monitors keypresses... takes resources and unnecessary during gameplay) Armory Crate (Asus program which coordinates their gaming software) msedgeview (browser running in background, unnecessary, this includes smartscreen.exe which is on because you have Edge running) --- I would recommend you look at your list and see if there are potential issues with any of them. --- Doing some research on the rest of your files.
Team Fusion Buzzsaw Posted January 1, 2023 Team Fusion Posted January 1, 2023 Ok, now that I have read your thread re. the compass, I understand why you getting all the crashes. It is because you are running the VR Beta... some players ARE getting crashes who are running it. The VR Beta is a by definition, a product in development... it is not a release. So bugs are a factor. Please check with the VR Beta forum on ATAG and provide your feedback there... we will try to work through your issues and/or identify what the bug is. This is not an issue for this forum. Closing thread.
