S10JlAbraxis Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 I noticed that bases in southern England use the same fires to mark the runways at night as in the eastern front maps. I would expect this in a quickly built temporary airfield on the eastern front or perhaps the temporary airfields built just after the D Day landings in France but is this normal for more established British airfields? I really have no idea but seems like marking airfields with fires in an established airfield is a bit strange. Wouldn’t they want electric lights so they could be quickly turned on and off to avoid giving away the location of the airfield to the enemy any longer than necessary? No big deal I am just curious about this.
