Dusty_Steppes Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 How is it possible for my pilot to bail out, land next to a standing tree, survive, and then have his collapsing parachute knock down a tree? The tree fell away from my pilot, so he survived. Unfortunately, I was not recording and was too stunned to get a screenshot before my pilot disappeared.
Ghost666 Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 It was a dead tree, hollow inside, rotted wood, roots eaten by goffers. And the thing would not have lasted through the next mild wind. 1
IckyATLAS Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 I suppose that the collision model with trees (for tanks and vehicles) has not considered the parachute case and the collision detection happens and probably the "parameters" to decide if the tree goes down or if the vehicle becomes damaged in the collision, are set wrongly and so the parachute wins. On the other hand there is probably no graphic model of the parachute hanging from a tree, and only the parachute flat on the ground. Conclusion tree and parachute go both down. It would be nice if we had the pilot hanging from his parachute entangled in the tree like in real life. This often happened when you had to eject yourself over forests.
Dusty_Steppes Posted December 17, 2022 Author Posted December 17, 2022 It would be nice to see the pilot get hung up in the tree and survive instead of dying. That is why I watched the descent as he was drifting towards a line of trees, and I wanted to see if he would miss them and survive. He did survive but the tree he just missed was taken out by his parachute. Now if I could only drape a parachute over a tank I would be set. It could also work as camouflage during the winter. ?
