dburne Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 (edited) I am still not sure I understand this "all in one" approach but more power to them. I am just not sure there is going to be enough of a market/demand for mixed reality as they might think - ie being able to work with both VR and real world imagery at the same time. This statement I liked: Quote We’re in an era when consumer VR headsets have been massively subsidized by companies that are trying to vacuum up and take personal data to provide to advertisers,” he says. “We don’t believe the way that we want to approach it is to compromise on privacy.” Hence why no Meta device will reside on my PC. simfan2015 Posted December 16, 2022 Author Posted December 16, 2022 (edited) The big unknown at this moment... This being a standalone hmd... What vr app store is HTC going to offer... Meta??? Pico??? ... Their own??? To me none makes much sense. Too little too late!? I personally couldn't care less since I only use SteamVR anyway. If that proves ok then... Count me in!? dburne Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 (edited) I thought HTC had a pretty decent game streaming service don't they? https://www.viveport.com/ Edited December 17, 2022 by dburne
simfan2015 Posted December 17, 2022 Author Posted December 17, 2022 (edited) Sorry, I didn't know about the vive store and service. All those different stores are, imho, a miss for VR in general though. But I didn't buy anything in the pico store yet or meta for that matter, except for VD. So I can still easily pick a new headset solely depending on specs and reviews. I wonder whether ggodin will also support this new headset with his Virtual desktop app!? dburne Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 I think it is good for VR overall that HTC is re-establishing a direction in the consumer VR market. Even if it is yet another "all in one" offering. I wish some of these companies would take their own lead rather than following Meta's lead...
