Flooding regions in Germany caused the death of 1,600 civilians, maybe a rate of civilian losses per mission higher than losses caused by conventional bombing. Let's not forget them neither.

Plus a good percentage of those were allied POWs (mainly Soviet from what was later written but French and Belgians as well).

Let's call them what they were: slaves, not PoWs.

There are no winners in war.

War is horrific.  Horrific things happen.   There are no winners or losers.   Only death and destruction.

ALL those who lost their lives in the raid ARE remembered. They are remembered at appropriate times, in appropriate places and in appropriate ways.

All of which this thread, linking soley to the remembrance of a man’s whole life, isn’t.

This is an appropriate time and an appropriate place, and the way I did it was an appropriate way.

I’m sorry Kintaro I strongly disagree.

An appropriate time would be the anniversary of the raid not the occasion of the passing of one  man who was involved as aircrew in it. An appropriate place, as far as this forum goes, would be a thread dedicated to the raid or its remembrance not a thread about an individual. An appropriate manner would be as a contribution to either of the above but not as a counterpoint conversation starter set against the spirit of the thread.

Ok, Boo, you disagree. There's not problem with you disagreeing with me just as, as I hope, there's no problem with me disagreeing with you.
