sfp54 Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 (edited) Hi! I'm looking for technical information on the German KG-style stick grips used by the Russians in WWII. It seems this type of grip, which in many ways appears to reflect the design of the German KG12 and KG13A/B, was mainly/only fitted to Yak fighters; the other fighters (Lagg, MiG) used "spade-style" grips. What were the designations of Soviet grips? Do any handbooks or manuals exist that describe the design, features and functions of those grips? I believe variations of the German-style grip also carried over to early MiG jets after the war. All info appreciated. Thank you. Steve Edited December 7, 2022 by sfp54
MDzmitry Posted March 27 Posted March 27 (edited) Sorry if I'm late, but this grip was indeed a copy of the German KG-12. As far as I know this grip was called R-1 (Р-1 in Russian) and appeared around 1943 on most Soviet fighters like Yak-9, Yak-3 and La-7. La-5FN didn't get this grip, perhaps because it was considered an unnecessary change for a cockpit already in production. Post-war this grip could also be seen in practically every Soviet design from La-9 and La-11 to MiG-15. The controls were identical to KG-12 except for the addition of the wheel brake lever. You can actually read a bit more on it from the recent Dev Blog on IL-2 Korea: https://il2-korea.com/news/dd_23 Edited March 27 by MDzmitry
