just bought meta quest2,do i have to buy il-2 steam version for it to work,does not seem to work otherwise.

No you do not - you will need Steam VR but certainly do not need to rebuy IL-2 from the Steam store.

I also have the MQ2, and the non-Steam version of iL-2 - I recommend downloading Open Composite so you don’t have to bother with SteamVR (with the added bonus of getting better fps).

 

Copy the DLL file into your game folder (it overwrites the existing file) and select the “launch in VR” option in the iL-2 launcher settings.
