Please expose the internal pilot head translation axis to use with any analog control device

Hi,

I want to control the pilot head translation movement with some analog axis, in the similar way that TrackIR does.

I find those "internal" axis but no way to use it...

Currently the pilot head translation only can be controlled by discrete button actions.

The axis exists in "current.map"... why don't expose them to freely use with any available axis that we have in our controls?

action("bc_head_trans_x_p","State","_trackir_axis_Z");
action("bc_head_trans_y_p","State","trackir_axis_Y");
action("bc_head_trans_z_p","State","_trackir_axis_X");

There is an easy workaround for these cases since years ago.... You need two tools:

Download ans install OpenTrack and vJoy.

in vJoy, create a virtual joystick with enough axis for your purpose.

in OpenTrack, select vJoy as input source and configure the correct vJoy device. select freetrack as output protocol. Leave either freetrack or TrackIR on.

play around with the curve and filter settings.

enjoy.

Although, I assume you are just trying to find convinient ways to control the head and the camera... In that case, what I wrote above is totally dwafed by the quick and easy solution: aruco marker.

Take a look here, it takes less than 20 mins to setup. And with some days of fine-tuning, it will work just as well as TrackIR, with the exception of having to keep a dim background light in the room while flying.

If you want to fix that problem, you can take a step further and build a IR clip and fly in total darkness... with 6 degrees of freedom!

Just to demonstrate the effectiveness of the cheap aruco marker (after fine-tuning the curves and filters), you can watch my mediocore pilot skills while having a laugh. BUT, can you tell that I'm just using a piece of paper marker if I didn't tell you it wasn't TrackIR?
