Is anyone else's game not going above 60 fps?

Since last update I cant get above 60 fps.  Even on the lowest of low settings, with 10% gpu utilization, it wont go above 60 fps.

Just done a fresh install but no luck.

Pre-patch I was hitting 70+ in VR mode.  Now in vr and non-vr its stuck at 60.

Any ideas?

PC is an i7-9600 ~ 3.6ghz, 3070ti, 32gb ram and game sits on an SSD.

Thanks everyone

Vsync on?

Frames limiter on?

Is your HMD (you didn't mention which one) set to a >60Hz refresh rate?

The v-sync setting does not affect VR.

I also had this issue even though I was set to 90.  For whatever reason, resetting it to 60 and then restarting my entire system and then setting it back to 90 cured it for me. ?‍♂️

For the last few Nvidia drivers, if I didnt uncheck Vertical sync in the manage 3d settings under IL2, I was limited to 60 FPS in the G2. Turning it off I had 90 FPS...

Solution for me was to put the Vertical Sync in the NVidia Control Panel to 'Off'. The default "Use the 3D application setting" caused 50 fps no matter what I tried in the IL-2 settings.

Interesting, I've always left it to application managed and controlled it from the game settings.

i have been having issues too, but since the last patch with my fps with my vr.. and the latest Nvidia video drivers. Just terrible video performance.

I found the issue.  I had set the PC screen set to window.  For some reason, this was capping the FPS to 60.  When I set the PC screen to be full size FPS jumped and I've had no issues; in-fact it looks like I can crank up the settings now without any issue.  Bit strange as I'd run the game like this for well over a year without issue.

I’ll have to try the full screen fix, I’ve been struggling with performance too, thanks!

Are you using Windows 11? I had this issue after the last update, about 2 weeks ago (Nov 2022). I rolled back to the previous W11 release and everything went back to 80fps (Rift S). I hope this works for you.

Interesting. I’ve had issues as well. I’m using open composite with a G2. I was stuck on 30FPS and had MR set to unlimited. Setting it to 45 upped the frame rate in VR to 45. Must be driver related as I had exactly the same issue in DCS.

I’ve never had 90 FPS in game BTW. Using a G2 with an an RTX 3080 and a intel 10700k processor running at 3.80GHz.

I have base settings on ultra, though.

if you are using open composite the dll files were updated today. That cured my FPS loss. it was down 50%. down to 30 from 45 using MR. I could force it by locking 45FPS in the Open XR tool. but since the dll update all is back to normal. I run the sim on ultra settings in VR.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll go and download the new dll file. Hopefully it will help with the smoothness.

One other thing I discovered yesterday. Newbie, discovery. Setting your screen to a low res in in the graphic settings frees up some resource for VR flying. I cap my frame rate at 45 FPS in MR using the the open XR tool, setting the lowest screen res in the graphics setting gives me a bit more overhead and it may be me but the missions seem to load faster.
i  really saw the benefit in DCS.

In IL2 I’m now getting a steady 60-70 FPS, smoothed down to 45 in MR. I have base settings at Ultra, with a few tweaks. For me, IL2 has never looked so good in VR.

update: reducing the res started to cause the sim to hang on launch, normally requiring a PC reboot. Not convinced there was much of a gain in the end. Back to full res and no more launch issues.

could just be my setup, but if your sim starts to hang on launch then the reduced screen res could be the issue.

Yea with a reduced screen res and full screen enabled il2 will launch one out of 5 attempts for me.  If it's set to windowed mode it loads every time.  There's some vram usage that drops, especially if your monitor is 4k. But unless you're running out of vram and getting huge frametime spikes from lack of vram i'd recommend just leaving it at your monitor res because there is a noticeable decrease in frametimes from running fullscreened

I think I'm getting that bug too. I used to be able to reach 90fps most of the time sometime dropping to around 60 fps. That means that with the retroprojection system of hte VIve Pro 2, I had a choice between using 90fps in 90hz mode and hoping that it doesn't drop lower too often, or I would use the 120hz mode and lock the fps down to 1/2. That used to give the best smoothness, but at the moment it's weirdly stuttering, and if I go in 90hz mode then it drops to 45fps at all time. Either the performance of IL2 has completely crashed down recently or something funny is happening e.g. the fps being locked just at 60 fps for some reason. I guess I'll try the fullscreen trick...

With VR and combat flight sims, it keeps being a wild goose chase. Every time I fix an issue and get back to perfect smoothness, it only lasts for a brief time before the next issue pops up and ruins it (although for some reason I don't have that sort of issues with MSFS, it's just DCS and IL2 that keep giving me a headache)

Well, it looks like performance had degraded just under 90 fps most of the time rather than being locked at 60fps. I really don't know what might have caused the dip, and I've already reinstalled the whole IL2. It might be once again nvidia drivers related, or IL2 itself (because I'm not having issues with MSFS and DCS, despite the whole thing about 2.8 being worse of perf I'm doing fine). I'm just getting almost constant stutters when dogfighting, it's even not that smooth doing a simple quickmission with only a few aircraft fighting. Sigh... I guess I'll shelf IL2 again until I do my CPU upgrade for a 7800x3d next month or so...

Same thing happens to me, any solution?

Had this same issue - fps stuck at 30/60fps and GPU doing squat.  Enabling full screen in the initial IL2 settings menu fixed it for me.

Just found this thread and was able to reach 80-90 fps by unchecking Vertical sync on the Nvidia manage 3-D settings.  I’ve been running at 55-60 fps for over a year now.  Thanks to all above.
