Random Device Number Changes - Shows as new Device in IL2 when devices have not changed

This following has happened a few times as I try and configure my Virpil CM3 Throttle.

 

I am using Virpils 32 Button per Device function which generates 3 devices for the CM3.

 

I also have a VKB Gunfighter Joystick attached.

 

This is my original Devices file - all good and working fine.

 

 

The issue occurs when I have the Virpil software and IL2 Key settings open. It happened once after I recalibrated the Throttle axis, another time after assigning a logical button number in Virpil software. 

 

The first indication of an issue is that IL2 Key Mapping won't recognise a pushed key. 

 

I restart IL2 and it comes up with the "New Controller Found" dialog.

 

When I go look in Devices I now see the original 3 Virpil devices have been duplicated with different GUIDs and ID numbers. as below.

 

I logged this with Virpil and they say it's an IL2 issue, and that it is IL2 that assigns the GUIDS. 

All I know is its driving me nuts trying to fix it by editing the Devices file every time it happens.

NB. Virpil didn't correctly understand the issue in that I did not create a new profile.
