Help with the hawker tempest!

The engine seems to  cut out after around 35 minutes of flying maybe longer while playing career mode, i've not been able to finish the first day yet.

i've tried it with radiators on automatic mode via the difficulty check menu aswell as manual and oil and water temps are below 90c and 130c respectively.

I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong?

Watching rpms and trying to maintain 3100 while in cruise/formation then 3700 in battle.

If someone could also explain when it is appropriate to use the radiatiors and how I use the supercharger properly?

thanks

The only Radiator the plane has is either 100% open or close.  For the most part keep it open if it's not winter cold.  The only time to close it would be to gain some extra speed by reducing drag and extra heat adds a little extra horsepower (at least IRL) at the risk quickly doing damage to the engine.

As far as engine cut-out...  You might want to check your fuel load in the plane setup menu before you fly. The automatic loadouts sometimes have a tendency to give not enough to complete the mission.  If you hear your wing mates calling "bingo fuel, rtb", that's probably why.  Nothing you can do for them if you're not the wing leader but, you can at least cover your own fuel settings.

I don't know if the mixture can be adjusted in-flight by manual control but, it definitely needs to be in the "RUN" position and left there.  If you have an axis bound on your controls, be careful that you haven't accidentally moved it out of position.  The mixture should automatically be set to run since the only starts are in the air or on the runway but, it may be possible to accidentally "nudge" the control.

Supercharger should be a simple matter of switching to the appropriate gear according to the in-mission spec sheet in the map screen. Be sure to not go too low before you shift down. Depending on how much extra manifold pressure the second gear gives, there's a chance of blowing the motor at high throttle if it gets a big gulp of denser air (at least IRL).  Shifting up isn't as critical but, you will lose alot of power if you forget.

The only other thing I can think of is possibly being too 'fast' with the throttle and rpm control.  For the most part, you can cut throttle pretty fast but, adding throttle needs to be done at a more careful speed.  It doesn't have to be snail slow but, it might take a bit of practice to get the feel for it.

Also remember on manually controlled throttle/RPM engines, to add throttle and RPM, you want to add RPM THEN throttle and to reduce RPM, you want to lower throttle first, then drop the RPM.  The distance doesn't have to be far between the 2 but, make sure that the correct throttle and RPM settings are at least slightly ahead/behind each other depending on which way you're adjusting.

advertised 1h combat is good only when you look at gauges, do not trust combat icon or techchat, it is wrong and it says your in combat but your not ur using more then +8lbs while combat max is +7lbs, and you will expire your engine timer in 20-30min insted 1h. That would be my first culprit.

2nd is fuel, but i doubt its that as you can fly 70min on 100% at full combat power, so if you start with 50% or less your in truble at 35, also radiators i doubt it is, almost always you can keep them closed, supercharger will not brake your engine and it can be turned to 2nd abow 9kft.

Usealy its engine timers and as combat to emergancy switch is not happening exactly when it should i m sure you used up 1h in 20-30min and thats braking engine.
