Radar361 Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 I had a cargo job today and after cruising across the channel to the *VERY* forward airfield I noticed air raid sirens just as I flared for my landing. BAM! Wounded and with heavy damage I immediately I stopped and unloaded my cargo as fast as I could as a nearby AA battery joined in the bullying. As soon as my cargo disappeared I jammed on the throttle and off I went. As soon as my wheels left the ground my wounded bird began to yaw and roll to the right (toward the bad guys!!) without my consent. After some crafty yoke and rudder work I got the plane flying level and the hell away from the lines! I gave a quick assessment and thought my wounds weren't too bad and I might try to make it home, albeit with a significant fuel leak I wasn't too confident about. As I was trying to decide my next step my number two engine made the choice for me. Now, wounded with a significant gas leak, and one engine out I began looking for a field to land on. All the while there is still the thought in the back of my mind of those pesky enemy fighters. After a couple of minutes a field was spotted at about my 11 o'clock. Gear back down when I'm near the field and I settled it in for a messy landing as cannon shells splattered the dirt around me. I paused the game after I stopped and took a couple of screen shots of my poor gooney bird, and then got the hell out of there! I was a little upset that I didn't get credit for a successful haul, I did after all deliver my cargo under hazardous conditions, but at least I survived! I hope you enjoyed my little story, delivering cargo isn't always monotonous! Also, sorry if the screen shot isn't up to par, but It was a VR shot I had to crop. 6
Radar361 Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 An update... I was just killed in action trying to land at a field under attack on my very next mission. Seems like a bit much to have to dodge fighters on every mission after D-Day?. It might make being a fighter jock more fun, but when your in a defenseless cargo plane, it kinda sucks! 1
dbuile Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 Yeah, transport missions try to pack in a little too much excitement. I was shot in the face on the ground in my fourth Ju 52 mission. Since you're the only plane in the formation, I believe those prowling fighter(s) directly target you; ie, you're not a random target of opportunity. It's unclear how AI functions in clouds, so, I don't even know if you even evade fighters via cloud cover... Personally speaking, I'm more interested in aviation aspects when choosing a transport career: flight planning, navigation, whether dead reckoning or radio navigation... granted they're not gonna sell a lot of games based on calculating takeoff distance needed based on weight and temperature, but I wouldn't mind manually tuning to different nav beacons.
PB0_Roll Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Try easy and scattered settings, see if it helps.
Lusekofte Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 I am testing GB and msfs version of DC3 and GB they are very much a like except for weather involvement but I found FS to be much more enjoyable to do. Right now that is. It is probably me in the start of another break from GB. but I think it comes with the territory of wanting to fly transport and bombers for that matter, you want to be more of a pilot doing more pilot stuff than GB offer. So I do not say devs are doing it wrong. Currently I just find it hard to justify the time spent flying it. I cannot see what to do to make it survivable and fun , while I have no problems finding that in fs
