Spitfire IX engine management - tick over speed

I've a problem landing a Spitfire IX. Not the usual ground looping thing.

On landings the engine sometimes continues to produce a small amount of thrust even when throttled back. I've tried it on full auto engine management and on manual engine management with rpm control. Sometimes I can reduce the thrust right back and sometimes the plane can only just be stopped very gradually with full brakes.

Everything is fine when I fly the Hurricane. No troubles throttling back. Plane can stand still without brakes. So I don't think its a hardware issue.

So is there something about the Spitfire I don't know about? Is it something to do with damaging the engine in flight?

Any helpful hints gratefully received.

I don't have this issue so wonder if it is maybe something your end.

With my previous joystick I had an issue with the throttle being at 1-2% when throttle right back, it was 20 years old and starting to show it's age.

Maybe the same with you and it only really shows on the more poweful plane?

Perhaps set a small deadzone in the settings for the throttle axis, I think 4% is the minimum. That would at least rule that out.

I suppose it's a typo and you meant boost control? Cause if you keep some boost on and only dial back thr RPM, you're still producing power. But you should know that if you've flown Hurricane I guess?

Never used auto management 'cause it's known to cause various shenanigans, but in manual mode, with properly set and working controls, when stationary with engine running before takeoff / after landing (RPM lever - full forward, boost lever - full aft), the RPM gauge should read about 800, while the needle on the boost gauge should lay flat left (-8 PSI).

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions guys. I'll have another look into it this weekend.

A couple of things that keep occurring to me:

It has never happened with the Hurricane even though I've flown that one a lot. Less powerful engine? Could be. I'll fiddle with dead zones as suggested.

It only happens with the Spitfire after I've landed and taken off again a few times. Never a problem on the first landing. This makes me think its a bug or a "feature" in that I've damaged the engine in some way.

Well, I've flown my Spitfire IX with and without auto engine control a few times over the last few days.

As suggested I added a dead zone to my throttle stick through the IL2 settings. 8%.

Findings are .. it went wrong just the once. With auto engine control. Usual story - completed a landing after three or four landings and couldn't throttle back. RPM was 1700 or so giving enough thrust to make it hard but not impossible to stop using the brakes. Restarting the game makes it goes back to working ok.

Maybe I'm unusual in doing "circuits and bumps" type of flying with multiple landings. Maybe thats why its rarely experienced.

Anyway, I can live with it.

you may need to calibrate you throttle
