chiliwili69 Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 (edited) Good to have more devices to the PCVR party!! There should companies doing devices just for PCVR. Without all the standalone extras. https://www.dpvr.com/en/dpvr-e4-pre-sale/ https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/dpvr-e4-announced-with-november-launch-aims-to-dominating-the-consumer-market-for-tethered-pc-vr-headsets-301687567.html Edited November 28, 2022 by chiliwili69
dburne Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 Very intriguing. Never heard of them but apparently they have at least been in the market a few years. Nice to see companies still devoted to native PC-VR. Take that Meta and shove it! LOL.
simfan2015 Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 (edited) This may prove a game changer if the resolution and fov is stellar! I may regret getting the pico 4 and not waited for January 2023!? Edited November 28, 2022 by simfan2015
102nd-YU-cmirko Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 (edited) would be lovely getting some reports on those crisp fresnel lenses and their sweetspot size ^^ anyone near Rotterdam ? DPVR will be showcasing its new VR headset at the VRdays exhibition in Rotterdam this week (Nov 30-Dec 2, Booth 14). Edited November 28, 2022 by 102nd-YU-cmirko
chiliwili69 Posted November 30, 2022 Author Posted November 30, 2022 The pre-order is open: https://www.dpvr.com/en/shop/dpvr-e4-pc-virtual-reality-headset/ I was going to pre-order since I saw these nice points: - DP 1.3/1.4 cable connection - Resolution 1920x2160 per eye (a single SHARP 4K panel) - good FOV - No inhouse store, made for SteamVR games - Light weight - Good price - no basestation requirement (inside-out traking) On the bad points: - 120Hz (no way you can run IL-2 VR at 120fps, only this one stop me thinking on pre-order) - Fresnel lenses - No quality audio - No IPD adjusment? Why the hell they don´t include other frequency modes???
simfan2015 Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 chilliwilly, each of your listed 'bad points' are IMHO and, for me, these are ... true showstoppers !!! Also what was not mentioned ... always wired connection. IMHO my cheap PICO 4 still looks a better proposition compared to this other cheap headset ... being PC-VR oriented or not.

Charlo-VR Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Hmmm… on https://www.dpvr.com/en/dpvr-e4-pre-sale/ they include the term “immersive soundscapes” which led me to think it includes an off-ear audio solution, but perhaps not based on the pre-order link chili posted. I’m not sure this is enough better than my Reverb G2 - similar FOV and maybe no built-in audio. The flip-up design and about half the weight is nice, but $500 nicer than my G2? I think I’ll wait for reviews from chili and maybe Fenris or others who have tried the G2.
dburne Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 (edited) Not very impressive to me. Edited November 30, 2022 by dburne 1
simfan2015 Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 This looks *very* .... cheap ... in all respects ! Don't think the reviewer was impressed either (to say the least). IMHO Pimax does not need to worry (or any other HMD company for that matter). I was not expecting ... this. 1
Dagwoodyt Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Looks like something you would find in a VR arcade.
chiliwili69 Posted November 30, 2022 Author Posted November 30, 2022 Except Valve who owns Steam, all other companies who will create only PCVR headsets will need to be profitable on just the hardware. They can not subsidize the headset based on future software revenue. (like Meta, Bytedance or Sony) HP was doing that and it seems they will not continue. Only HTC and Pimax remains there. With E4 they tried to reduce the price as much as they could, but it looks like they reduce too much. I would not mind to pay 800$-1000$ but with pancake lenses, IPD adjustment, quality audio and better materials and 80 or 90 Hz mode. Something like the Pico4 but with DP cable and better audio. I really don´t know why they went to relatively not super high resolution (1920x2160 per eye today is not super duper) but put a very demanding 120Hz mode. For the same GPU load I would rather prefer 2500x2500 per eye at 80Hz.
simfan2015 Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 @chilliwilly. Exactly ! Another 'Chinese' headset with state-of-the-art components and specs -like the Pimax ...- might be just what VR needs. A Chinese Apple-luxury-type PCVR version so to speak ? But as you also wrote ... Valve may beat them to it ... of course at a high price point (the Deckard ... ?)

Yeah they are pretty low when Pimax even has no worries lol.
Dagwoodyt Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 It's the kind of product you would expect to see hawked on "Home Shopping" channels for impulse purchase/gifting by people having little knowledge of VR.
chiliwili69 Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 Some measures of the FOV, worse than Index:
