[Warship]MidnightLightnin Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 I would like to use the Encoders for things like Zoom or flaps etc and whilst I have got them functioning for some things, they operate too slowly to be useful. I have tried Dial/Scroll/Buffering/Delay variations but nothing seemed to make much difference. The only thing so far I have found they work for is things like setting bomb timing/Bomb Mode/Gun Convergence. Has anyone found a way to make these encoders work for things like Zoom, Mixture, Prop RPM, Radiators etc?
dburne Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 I have not and just use them for some simple things.
1CGS LukeFF Posted November 28, 2022 1CGS Posted November 28, 2022 Encoders in general don't work very well for things like flaps or trim. Best to just use them for fixed-position settings, as you've seen. ?

In IL2 I only use them for Gunsight Target Size, Gunsight Range and SRS Radio Channel. I have heard they can be used for time compression but I have not tried that. I have found that the encoder speed is too "slow" for some uses (and not found a way to modify this). For example if I use an encoder for Zoom the result is achingly slow (compared to using button throw). Similarly too slow for RPM and Rad control. For Mixture I found (presumably it was so slow) the game didn't register at all. In the other sim I use them on the Apache for flood lights, primary lights, Cockpit Camera Up Down, Cockpit Camera Left Right, FLIR Gain and FLIR Lvl. For the Hornet to Set Bingo, Altimeter Adjust, HMD Brightness, HUD brightness, Formation Brightness, Position Brightness. btw : how to set up to use the flaps lever (in case you have not done so already) : Edited November 29, 2022 by Dallas88B Added comment re encoder speed 1
Charon Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 The best thing is to map them to virtual axes. Some hardware supports being configured this directly, but personally I use this plugin with Joystick Gremlin:
Youtch Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Can you overcome the limit of 64 buttons through Virpil software to create another virtual controller like with VPC?
