WWGeezer Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 With the Hp G2 sale, decided to replace the old Rift S. Been a long time since I bought prescription lenses for a VR rig…do folks have a recommendation of who to buy them from these days?
dburne Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 I used VR Optician for my prescription lenses to put in my Aero. They were reasonable with a quick turn around time, have been very pleased with them.
Drano Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 I have these for my G2. Check em out. https://www.reloptix.com/
WWGeezer Posted November 26, 2022 Author Posted November 26, 2022 Drano the reloptx model looks like its built to allow the lenses to be easily removable ( noticed the tabs on the sides). Is that the case? ( On my Rift S I was afraid to take them on or off for others to use the headset because the installation was a bit tricky.
Drano Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 Yeah it's pretty cool. Two part system. The base snaps around the headset lens. The lens part uses magnets attach to the base. Real easy to swap out the lenses if you share the headset.
TheSNAFU Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 I have the g2 and bought my prescription lenses from vr optician. Work great, excellent service and quick delivery time.
Chilli_40 Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 I've had really good luck with VR Wave, their prices are great with good customer service. So far I've had 3 sets from them, 2 for oculus and 1 for my G2, they all just snap on for easy removal and cleaning if needed. They're currently having a black Friday sale! www.vrwave.com
WWGeezer Posted November 27, 2022 Author Posted November 27, 2022 Thanks for the advice guys. I think I am going to go with RealOptx for a couple reasons. Like the modular design that has a base with magnets so the perscription lense can easily be removed. Going to buy a non prescription set as well since you can buy them seperately and use the same base ( for sharing). My biggest fear is scratching the real lenses which happened the first week I owned the Rift S and assumed I could wear my glasses inside. Felt right but did not realize I had glass to glass contact going on. Yikes. But mostly they are getting high points from me because they have a black friday sale going, but the HP’s sold out and at 9:00 at night they sent an email back saying they would restock in nine days and still give me the discount. Also they are located in Colorodo, and as a California boy, gotta support the US based businesses! Can’t wait to us the HP Reverb G2, sure will be an upgrade from the Rift S. Once i flew Il2 in VR, I gave away my Trak IR….I just couldnt go back.
Drano Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 I think you'll be pleased with the lenses. Good price, made in the US, no up charges for the scrip or coatings, better system IMO. I had a similar experience wearing glasses with a RiftS before going to the G2. I got the lenses for the RiftS from VRopticians then as they could do my scrip. They were fine but these were about half the price when I went to get new ones for the G2. But I'm keeping the TIR around in case of a headset disaster! But just going back to that after years of VR would be a disaster in itself!
