Forcing longer scenery draw distance?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to force longer scenery draw distance beyond the maximum configurable settings in the in-game graphics settings? It's pretty painfully short draw distance compared to other modern sims these days.

What exactly do you need drawn at a longer distance?

Probably woods etc. They disappear relatively close to the player

The drawing distance of some objects, such as trees, depends on whether you are flying low, balanced, high or ultra. Left column of the graphic configuration menu.

There is still a halo effect of the draw distance though... granted it's not nearly as bad as it used to be.

Not sure if it's still a thing, but try turning cinematic view off, this made the halo effect less noticeable in previous versions

It's mainly the forest/tree draw distance that is very limited. I already have the settings on Ultra + maxed out. Has nothing to do with cinematic camera option.

Dont expect wonders. This is one of the (many) limitations in this sim. The graphics engine is simply too old and outdated to draw a significant larger LOD radius.

The question remains open. In the config file we can increase the radius of the grass larger as the ultra parameter. I have not found something similar for Trees/Forests. Maybe there is a way, but maybe it is not accessible to us.

Yes, there is a way through presets.cfg file (modded version file). Tomorrow I Will explain It. Only with mods on. Limited effect.

Check this old thread:

Here you have the file to mod. Check this table:

The maximum in forest_distance is 7 (+2 over ultra settings). That's all. Don't go over 7.

This file must be enabled through JSGME. MOD,s folder. You know.

Keep in mind that this is an old file and many things have changed since then (e.g., clouds and their rendering), but for trees it is still valid. I don't know if it is valid for everything else as well.

Test at your own discretion and under your own responsibility.

Thanks Willy, but here I will pass. I had in the past too many issues with conflicts with mods, that I will leave it for now.

I just wish we could control all of these values directly through startup.cfg

it would be sort of low hanging fruit for the dev team to give us for holidays....
