Virpil CM3 Throttle Issue - IL2 sees CM3 as new device on every game start

I spent some time yesterday setting up my CM3 key bindings, I had to use the "Split device into 3 x 32 Button Devices" option in the Virpil sofware to get IL2 to see all buttons. At the end of yesterday it was working fine with all buttons accessible. Note. I also have a VBK Gunfighter stick connected.

This morning when I start IL2 I get the new Device message for the CM3. I know I saved the CM3 profile yesterday (lots of times).

I first tried the option of copying settings across from the "old" CM3 but then found when trying to map bindings lots of buttons weren't working - or sometimes worked and sometimes didn't.

Tried rebooting everything and when IL2 started and gave the "new device" message I Cancelled the option to transfer settings to new device - also went into all Key Bindings and deleted all "old" bindings for the CM3. Rebooted everything and restarted IL2 - still sees CM3 as new device and won't accept bindings for some keys.

I have checked CM3 in Joy Tester and windows sees all the button presses across the three devices that the Virpil s/w created - just IL2 won't see them.

Can anyone help?

Update. The Devices file appears to show the 3 x 32 button CM3 devices, the VKB stick, and 2 old devices I no longer use. Is it safe to delete the obsolete devices from this file?

Also, The button numbers in IL2 are one less than in WIndows, I suspect it's because Windows starts with Button 1 and IL2 starts with Button 0 but is this normal, it would be less confusing if they used the same button numbers.

You might need to rename your <gamedir>/data/input/devices.txt file so the game can recreate it.

Or you can edit it and set the device order to match your bindings but since you've been redoing things that likely won't work out.

This is my Devices.txt - does it look odd? The first two devices are the obsolete ones.

I think I fixed it, thanks for your help.

When I looked at device numbers in windows and IL2 they were different.

So in Devices.txt I deleted the obsolete devices and changed the device numbers to match those in windows.

Seems to be ok now, at least the "New Device" message in IL2 has stopped showing and I can map buttons to the CM3 :)

UPDATE :(

Unfortunately my VKB stick is now assigned to Device 1 in Windows and Il2 but it was previously was device 2 in Il2, so non of my bindings work anymore. Is there a way to change device number in windows?

UPDATE 2

Its FUBAR.

Just deleted Devices to let IL2 recreate it and found the Device ID's in IL2 bear no relationship to those in windows. Looks like I will have to set everything up again from scratch. Still don't know why it worked yesterday and not today so may happen again.

Probably a bit late as I'm not near a computer currently but here's a quick write up on a similar issue which explains a bit how to reassign order without losing your configuration:

Ignore the Windows order it doesn't matter, what matters is devices.txt and the .map files.
