DocJMB Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 Just added Normandy game & getting set up Wish to increase UI Scale (Screen fonts too small) but clicking on the drop down box elicits a gray screen overlay and no response….same with the other settings on this page. What am I doing wrong?
69th_Panp Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Check to see if your install folder is READ only in the properties same with the startup CFG file located in the data folder
DocJMB Posted December 15, 2022 Author Posted December 15, 2022 Shout the READ ONLY property be unchecked or checked?
Billsponge1972 Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Read only box checked means it cannot be modified.
DocJMB Posted December 15, 2022 Author Posted December 15, 2022 (edited) Main IL-2 Folder Read Only property unchecked along with all folders in the main folder....still unable to find a way to increases the size of the font/message boxes on screen. An outline of the problems I have faced & suggestions from Forum members (gratefully received) are in the "Size of On Screen Messages" Topic in this Forum. In addition, a request for help has been sent to the folks at ICGS Support Team...awaiting their advice: Any & all advice gratefully received. DocJMB Posted December 20, 2022 Author Posted December 20, 2022 Here is the response received from the ICGS Support team: In order to get UI scale bigger you need a bigger monitor and game resolution. My 48" TV Monitor & the game are set to 1920 x 1080 resolution. Don't know what higher settings are required.

Just to clarify the reply from the support team: a "bigger monitor" does not necessarily mean you can set the UI scale higher. It solely depends on the resolution setting. One thing you *could* try is to use super resolution to run the game on a higher resolution than the monitor's native one, if your GPU's performance permits. And then choose the biggest scale selectable. But it might not give you a large enough UI in the end, because increasing the resolution without changing the physical size of the display means a smaller UI. So it depends on combination of the super resolution and the UI scale setting here. My post about using the super resolution: And if we get a bit more into the technical details, TVs aren't monitors, even though modern TVs use the same cables to transmit the data as monitors do (HDMI or DP). TVs tend to be larger in size, but remain low in resolution. TVs tend to have a lower refrest rate (60Hz) in comparison to monitors (120, 144 or even more). TV has built-in tuners. Monitors don't. Which results in TVs tend to have less sharp images, higher input latency and less true - but more eye-candy colors. You can already sense where this is going: TVs are not designed to be used for most games that are fast paced or require sharp images. And IL-2 requires both. This also explains why you feel the icons are too small - you are displaying IL-2 on a physical display with the size for cosuming video/image content at a comfortable distance. Not computer programs. On a side-note: I am not critisising the way you are using your computer. I simply want to provide some details for you to understand the root of the problem. Also as a friendly notice: you have just leaked your full name and your email address in this post. Please be careful.
DocJMB Posted December 22, 2022 Author Posted December 22, 2022 Oops..a slip-up...thanks! And thanks for explaining the situation so well! Will save up for a gaming monitor...and flying lessons!! 1
DocJMB Posted December 29, 2022 Author Posted December 29, 2022 Problems Solved! ? Thanks to Viking Sail's valuable "teaching lesson" re the difference between a normal TV & Gaming Monitor, I am now hooked up to a proper gaming monitor - running at 2560 x 1440 at 165Hx using Display Port. What a difference. GUI scale now set at 150% & I can read the on-screen messages clearly. Many thanks! And now on to the 2nd problem....need flying lessons!! ? 1 1
101stVoodoodog_1 Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 So how did you get your graphic to run 2560x1440, I haven't flown for a while and recently bought a 27 in. ASUS qaming monitor @ 2560x1440 144hz and I can get it to run @ 1920x1440 using nvidia dsr settings in control panel but can't figure how to get full screen with native monitor settings using il2 conf.. I curently have IL2/FB/PF and want to get back into it as I started with the first Il2 series and was hooked and flew a lot of coop and online servers but it's been a while and I really want to get back into it with the newer versions. My last patch was 401M and I was wondering if there was a patch update to help with this issue. I hope someone here can give tips, Thanks, VooDoo...
DocJMB Posted January 15, 2023 Author Posted January 15, 2023 Opening screen with PLAY GAME button…Upper right…SETTINGS button.. RESOLUTION…..select 2560 x 1440
101stVoodoodog_1 Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 (edited) I don't have this control panel. My version is 407M. IL2 PF/FB/AEP. I'm sure I will need to get current with patches but I'm trying to get this to run at full native resolution. When I start the sim it goes into 1920x1440 and not 2560x1440. I've tried nvidia scaling, DSR and it won't fit my screen. Thanks, VooDoo. Edited January 16, 2023 by 101stVoodoodog_1
101stVoodoodog_1 Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 Problem solved. I used Nvidia control panel setting to scale and keep my monitor at same resolution in game. The true resolution is 1920x1440 stretched to 2560x1440. This seems to be a good work around and perhaps in the future I will be able to run true 2560x1440. Jumped on with Track IR and flew a few dogfights to get sharpen my old skills, Cheers, VooDoo!
101stVoodoodog_1 Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Update, through patching, my screen resolution (2560x1440) magically became an available option in my settings. I just updated my video card to (Asus ROG Strix GTX 1080 8g) yesterday not that I was having issues but had the opportunity to do it and took it. The sim is running like a dream, never been better, Cheers, VooDoo!
