C-47 D-Day career mission falls flat

I decided to start a C-47 career and the first mission is the famous D-Day airborne assault. The mission type was "special paradrop" and the time and weather conditions looked great. 

 

Then I started flying the mission and felt disappointed. The only flight in the sky was my own lonely flight of C-47s. No other flights at all. Not even a hint of an airborne assault. 

 

And it only got worse when I hit the mainland. Where I was expecting searchlights to light up and the famously heavy anti-aircraft fire, I was instead met with calm darkness. I did the entire mission and didn't see a single tracer or searchlight. 

 

Has anyone else run into this issue or is it just me? 

 

 

Settings wise I was playing on high with dense air traffic.

Same, I had it hard with high density. I had search lights but no flak at all.

Ill add my comment from the general thread but im finding the french coast oddly depopulated by allied craft. Ive tried 5 cargo delivery missions and it feels like the germans have complete air superiorty over the coastline. 

 

On the map most of the bases are home to multiple allied fighter squadrons and yet ive been shot down every time. In one case they were doing passes on me on the runway with just the AA shooting at them seemingly.

 

Feels off to send a single unarmed cargo plane into an area where german fighters have nothing countering them. Ive tried flying in low and near the ceiling but the issue is they are just free to shoot me down.

 

Another kind of funny thing was i started the career and flight ops were canceled for days so i think my career started about 7 days after d day and i never got the paradrop mission at all. Every mission is a cargo delivery to one of 3 airports south of point du besson and im always alone. Maybe its the squadron i chose?

Here you can see the career start. Orange is fast forwarded where flight ops suspended. Yellow is where I got wings and green is the first mission. So its a couple weeks after.

Almost makes it a bit stranger for the german air superiority at that point.

 

 

ive been shot down in the red areas and the green boxes have been all 5 mission landing zones. Everyone is flying alone from our squadron and the missions are all the same.

One or two flies to the point west and the other two or three are always delivering below Bayeux

 

 

 

This is the the middle red box where I was shot down and I was engaged by 4 german fighters well north of the line and nothing apparently there to challenge them including AA except over my designated landing field where they did encounter AA. You can see how far north they can penetrate to shoot me down even weeks after D day.

Something's not right there. Have you modded anything or set your career speed to something other than Realistic? I just started a new career with this squadron and was assigned my first mission on June 5, as expected.

Hey @jadebullet I noticed the same thing and whipped up a brief mission myself. It's just enough to get a quick taste of the D-Day drops flying with multiple C-47s.

 

Would love to see a community event of C-47 owners doing a coordinated D-Day mission sometime

I do have user mods enabled altho i didnt think it would be that as my other careers seem fine and i think i did set speed to medium or whatever the middle setting is.

 

Ill start a new one on realistic as its not exactly been successful anyways. 

I couldnt fully discount the game being right as i had a moment where i thought maybe the game was thinking " if we are going to promote this guy and keep him alive maybe we better just ground him" lol

I started a new career out of Hurn with the 301st and my first mission is a cargo paradrop on June 7th.

I really think Ive been blacklisted from D Day lol

D-Day in general doesn't work for me in career. Flight ops on June 6th and there wasn't a single ship in the channel or anything happening on the beaches. Really disappointing.

I flyed some careers with Ju52 in the past. Sometimes the game offers me add more Ju52‘s to my flight but these added planes never spawn in the mission. Seems a bug in the transporters career mode?

Nope - Ju 52 missions are all meant to be flown solo. The C-47 ones for Normandy have been reworked so you can have up to 9 planes per mission for cargo drop and paratrooper drop missions. The Rhineland ones are still WiP.

Normandy? No, those are good to go right now. It's the Rhineland ones that'll come later.

Since I didnt like the missions for c47 in career i made a short campagin. First mission is d-day. Rest is mostly transport drops and cargo deliveries. Feel free to check it out ??
