slikslik Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Hi all. Does the Lenspen work well on fresnel lenses? I have the 8kx, and I've been using the micro fiber and water method. My brother gave me a Lenspen, but I'm not sure if I should try it. I asked on the Open MR site, but nobody provided any info on how effective a cleaner it is and of course, is it safe to use. Anyone here familiar with the LensPen? Thanks far all input take care...Eddie.
dburne Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 All I have ever used and will ever use, is my hot breath and micro fiber cloth. I would not suggest anything else myself.
robbiec Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 I have used Lenspen on camera & lens optics for years with no issue. The wipe is a soft carbon based pad and there will also be a soft brush for dusting. I would think that the pad is probably softer than a microfibre cloth.
slikslik Posted November 23, 2022 Author Posted November 23, 2022 Thanks for the input robbiec. I'm thinking I might try it. I would really like to hear from members here that have used the pen. I don't know what kind of lens a camera uses, but cleaning a fresnel lens might give a different outcome. Thanks again all take care
Drano Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 (edited) I don't think it matters what type of lens it is (fresnel, pancake, etc). What's more important is how hard or soft the plastic is that the lenses are made of. That's why you need something that's as gentle as possible to clean them. Paper of any kind is right out, even the lens cleaning wipes. They're too hard/rough and will leave tiny scratches. Micro fiber cloths are much softer and that's why they recommend them. I use them all the time on my glasses and also my VR headsets with no issues. Frankly wouldn't use anything else. Consequently, I haven't tried one of the pens on my G2. Figured it's just a gimmick. About the only thing to look out for is rubbing so hard you might remove any coatings so watch out for that. I did get some prescription lenses from Reloptix that cover the G2 lenses and so protect them perfectly. They make non-prescription clear lenses too. Edited November 23, 2022 by Drano
slikslik Posted November 25, 2022 Author Posted November 25, 2022 Hi Drano. I tried it, and it works great. I have the LensPen VR kit. It truly does work as advertised. Lenses were clean as a whistle with no scratches or residue of any kind. This is now my go to lens cleaner. I don't know what the cleaning tip of the pen is made of, but it's super soft whatever the hell it is. Of course, this is just my opinion. Thanks all take care
