Most sims depict their clocks with a quartz style second hand that advances in one second increments. That's awesome. I love this plane. Have you already done some night flying? I've recently been to St Mere Eglise Airborne museum where they have a C47 which can enter, set up in a night flying diorama (?) with pretty convincing flak burst, sound etc. You get to look in the cockpit too. I think this sim has completely nailed that atmosphere.

In my opinion, Cliffs of Dover map without a doubt. Smaller fields, more countryside villages, better elevation details & they have bothered to include believable hedgerows instead of sticking down trees in a line. =LD=dhyran Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 hiho I would like to see a 160 slot dserver We have a massive jump in compute power during the last 2 years, so it would be cool to raise the current limit of 84 <S> dhy 1
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 We have more computational power in general do to new hardware but software should be able to utilize it in modern ways. In present it is not true, there are messages showing during mission about servers being overloaded even on strong hosts. Other issues is net code optimization for that huge amount of information exchange.
RNAS10_Mitchell Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 (edited) All very true and accurate imo. From my experiences, the transition or upgrade of hardware and software components is a gradual process. Even in those situations where large amounts of cash are available to buy newer, better , faster stuff, oftentimes there are certain pieces that either can't be replaced due to technology limitations, (ie..can't replace part b until part a has been upgraded, etc), and/or physical restrictions (ie..we want upgrade this part, but we can't because it's still needed to perform some other function, etc). In summary, even with proper funding, these upgrades and improvements take time for various reason. There are many pieces involved, and oftentimes they involve multiple locations, with various environments. But you are completely correct imo. Edited November 29, 2022 by RNAS10_Mitchell
skc Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 (edited) That upgrade looks awesome however.... (1) Is there any way you can make these downloads smaller for all of us who don't have Normandy, Tank Crew etc? (e.g. Have the ability to just download the basic updates for running the game as an alternative option and not a pile of data which will not be used.) (2) Or at least make the simulation playable without needing to upgrade to get it to run. (3) Which folder do these downloads go to? I would at least like to copy them to a backup drive so I don't need to do the huge download again should my HD fail and how would I restore them, if I need re-install the game? This is a huge download for me and I suspect I'll not use much of it. Unfortunately I live in a 3rd (?) world country which has a dismal exchange rate, making so far, many of these add ons un-affordable. We also need to pay for our internet bandwidth, so a 40+ gb download is massive, especially if much of it will not be used. (apart from filling an ever shrinking H Drive!) Thanks in advance. With regards to Q2 you can do that through starting the game through the IL2.exe rather than the launcher.exe. Should be able to find them in \1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\bin\game
skc Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 (edited) Thanks.Tried that but even though there is the option to play Offline it still wants me to Update! (this is enough to make me go back to il21946 or just stick to COD!): Edited November 29, 2022 by skc

To avoid new downloads you can then play solely offline (start with IL2.exe). To make it sure, you can disconnect from the internet before you start IL2. Edited December 17, 2022 by Quax
