Sorry For The Newb Question (Steam vs Stand-Alone)

Hi all, LONG time DCS player that is checking out IL-2 for the first time after a massive computer crash that erased all my DCS files/controller inputs (20-40 hours down the drain)  I just cant bring myself to sit down for hours to rebind everything for 8 modules.....  Lesson learned, back up controller profiles! The controller binding for IL-2 are completely different, but after about 4 hours I got the hang of it....  I would like to purchase the Battle of Normandy, and frankly, I am all about supporting the team that is making this game....  My question, can you purchase the BON and have everything play nicely with Steam, or should I just go buy the basic STEAM version.  Frankly, for the price I was paying per module, I have no issue playing $80 for the premium edition to support the cause, but don't want issues playing the other titles from IL-2 that I purchased via Steam.

Thanks for your time, I hope to get the hang of this sooner or later and see you in multiplayer!

If you buy from the team they get ALL the money, Steam always have a cut. You never know there might be a Black Friday sale.

Welcome,

You can purchase from the website to maximize Dev support and play everything on Steam. There are multiple threads on the how-to, and multiple members will stop by here to tell you how as well. I only play from the launcher so I am not the best resource for Steam integration. Which module did you purchase and where did you purchase it?

As said, you can play any website-bought modules on Steam, no problem. You will need to buy Battle of Stalingrad on Steam though. There's currently no way to only buy Normandy on Steam; whatever modules you're interested in, you need the Steam-bought Battle of Stalingrad to play on Steam.

If a person starts with Stalingrad from Steam they're stuck with using Steam if they want a complete merged version with orher theaters, etc.; unless they never link their account to il2sturmovik.com and instead buy everything they own ob Steam a second time from the website. I started with Steam, linked my web purchases, and now have the web launcher version installed as well, and I am blocked from buying Stalingrad from this website for the web launcher version because I already own it on Steam. Same goes for my Steam Collector Plane and Flying Circus DLC.

I had to purchase Battle of Stalingrad, then bought flying circus, and battle of bonepat (spelling), and flying circus.  Also bought cliffs of dover and Tobruk  Thanks for the info.

@KrazySkooze, there is a utility called JoyPro that allows you to set the bindings (including keyboard bindings) for all DCS modules in one place. You can choose a function (e.g., flaps down), pick a keybind for it, and apply it to all modules that have that function at one time. It also handles IL-2 controls but I have not tried that yet so I don't know how the functionality compares to DCS. There are a series of JoyPro documentation/tutorial videos available on YouTube.

Hi KrazySkooze - Did you find any helpful links to explain how to use JoyPro to create IL-2 bindings ?
