How to stop the lead from issuing commands?

In career and custom missions (such as pwcg), if I'm the flight leader of any planned ground attack, my character automatically issues the command to patrol and attack ground targets. This seems to be automatic and occurs waaaaay before the target waypoint. Instead my flight leader automatically issues the command once the flight crosses the FLOT. If I override the command with "Follow my actions", the flight returns to me, but next time we encounter any ground forces my flight leader issues the command again. It's almost impossible to get to the target with the whole flight, since this keeps looping. Any way to stop this?

I totally agree.  If I am the flight leader, I don't want any commands issued to my flight unless I do so myself.  There have been so many times when I have been trying to set up my flight for an advantageous intercept only to have the automated command mess up the approach and my flight then attacks from a bad position.

So is there no way to stop this?

If so, then leading the flight is basically impossible?

Maybe this works only when the missions are designed with the Mission Editor with waypoints that are set to Medium. Then if they are not directly attacked, they will follow leader orders. Maybe in PWCG and career waypoints are set to Low, which means they will attack any enemy.

Same when reaching an Attack Area which can also be set the same way.

It seems to be a recent issue, I don't remember having to deal with this before. If what IckyATLAS describes is true, then there's no way to fix it on my own. Rather, it's an issue with mission design, but its present in unmodded vanilla career. I've created a topic in the bugs report forum

Well It is not a bug because it is by design. A horrible design choice granted. It is (I hope) a leftover from the original BOS before The Jason Era. You with unlockable mods and skins. ?

I completely misread the thread title and for a very brief moment wondered how bullets and shells could possibly issue commands.
