HB and Flowbee Tank Skin Collaborations

Following some discussion HB and I decided to combine our enormous talents :rofl: in order to provide more and better skins as well as a choice of clean or weathered skins. This way each of us, or at least I, get to do more of what I enjoy in skinning which is techniques and weathering. HB already has more than 90 skins, that he is happy for me to trash and also this way the resulting alternate tank skin also gets to be on HSD which could be considered as a step forward.

To kick off here is a Panther of the 11th Panzer Division, 1945.

I know for certain that one of us has no idea how this is going to work but I remain optimistic that you will be happy with the product of our endeavours. :)

S! Flow,

Love the top pic! You blended the tank and background so well it almost looks like a photo.

HB

PS. This skin has been uploaded to HSD. Remember, it can take 24-48 hours before it becomes available on HSD.

If you liked this one just wait until you see the next one, a Tiger.

HB did an incredible job on the skin and then I started on it to see if I could add anything. I've just spent 5 hours on a hatch lid with a star bolt on it. And another 3 on the heat shields. I am going all out to make this one as good as I can to match HB's amazing brush work. I hope all the effort will pay off and if not I will have learned quite a bit about how the metal works on a tank skin and where some of the stuff is on the Tiger jigsaw puzzle template. The developers must have gone nuts on this thing. It is incredibly confusing but very highly detailed.  :good:

Think it's great these two artists, HB & Flobee), collaborated, it's something more creative minds should consider.

Thanks for sharing the work.

I read recently that one of the TC Devs said something like the user skins were not good enough for the game - kind of a general statement; not sure if it was technical or aesthetically based.  But come on, after seeing this Panther .....how could that even be close to accurate.  These skins blow the Official skins out of the water.  You two guys coming together is just......well, "sick" comes to mind.

Totally sick (which means awesome).  You guys were great already - now it just ridiculous.

Salute!!

Well I finally got the Tiki Tiger finished. The plan here was to add some more weathering elements without losing or obscuring anything from an already incredibly nice skin by HB. I tried to work around the periphery of the tank and on the upper deck while leaving most of the paintwork as it was. I enjoyed working on it and hope you find it interesting enough to give it a drive.

love it!  Will it have a no name and no ID tag version ? (Asking for MP events, because we need to give a different idea to keep track of our troops)

If HB passes a no number skin to me I can run it through the weathering template. I also intend to do a number of variants. Dragon models did a feature on this showing other possible colour schemes that tie in with the original b/w period photo.

Update -  Ok, HB had already done that and I now have them so will do that next.

this skin is so nice that I think I will do the next event about this particular unit.
Did they fight with the same livery at Prpokhorovka ?

I have a brown version and an olive green version. I suspect it was likely that yellow, brown and green all featured when taking the terrain into consideration. That is also what the Dragon model box art shows. I have also seen a heavily red/brown mud and dust covered version. Given the ground at Kursk this makes sense. I imagine that one would be tricky to pull off as the mud and dust could easily turn out like a coat of paint. Will have some pictures to put up soon.

I think the 11th PzD. Panthers at Kursk all carried this insignia instead of the ghost.

This link below is a really good info source on Kursk Panthers.  I think most of them were unfortunately more yellow tahn green and we didn't see more use of the dunklegrun and dunklebraun until after Kursk.

Here is a pic of the Kursk 'Tiki' Tiger I am working on. It is based on 3 merged skins by HB. (And soon to be 4). Then I get to graffiti on it. :gamer::popcorm:

I tried to imagine how the tank colours would have been changed during the seasons and adapted to the terrain. However, it turns out that the Kursk Tiki was repainted in its entirety in preparation for the Kursk offensive. The darker colours first and then finally the sandgelb yellow on top. I envisaged that the base yellow would have remained however it was also repainted during the winter fighting for Kharkov and the yellow might have been overpainted at that time.

In game, Tiki really has that "lived-in" look of a real vehicle.

Truly Outstanding!

Before HB took a break he left an unfinished copy of the Dunaburg Tiger camo. I then continued to add weathering and tried to finish the camo. The end result after many iterations was the skin in the link below. Looking at some artistic representations I noted a lot of smaller paint daubs so tried to introduce that element. Whether that is historically correct I don't know as I found only Artist and modeler's impressions. At least everyone agreed on the colours used. Next I will move onto something completely different..  probably.

Excellent job Flow! I know I badger you to death on your techniques, but even if I tried for years, I doubt I could come close to your skill.

PS, I'll upload this to HSD in a little bit.

Love that story. It always surprised me how much driving around they did every day during the Dunaberg battles. That's a lot of mileage to put on an old Tiger, but it let them be at the right place, at the right time, when the whole front was unraveling around them.

Just took a look at the new StugIIIG and I feel a Stug coming over the hill :scratch_one-s_head:

There is some commonality with the PZIII which helps. ;)
