michaelws Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 I just purchased this yesterday, Nov. 5, 2022. After getting it all installed this morning I got motion sickness on my first flight? Real bad. I used to get motion sickness in first-person shooters but usually within an indoor environment. But I experienced this just about a half hour ago and am still feeling dizzy and somewhat nauseous as I write this post. Really a bummer for me. Maybe it just gets worse with age. I had TrackIR all set up also. Does anyone know where and how to apply for a refund? I purchased this from the IL-2 website but cannot find anywhere to get the information. Thanks for any help.
Wardog5711 Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 You can try support@1cgs.net. I'm not sure what the policy is on refunds for VR induced motion sickness, but that would be a good place to start.

Hi there! I have no idea how to get a refund, but I have a few suggestions worth trying before going for a reimbursement. Do you have previous experience with aviation sims? Have you tried to run the game without trackIR? Some folks suffer from motion sickness on their first sorties with a head tracking device. Should the situation improve without trackIR, you might start to habituate yourself and eventually become fully tolerant. I suggest using a less aggressive trackIR profile I.e. one that requires more head motion to get the desired in-game motion. Such a profile is more in line to what your brain expects. You can gradually steepen the response curves once you accommodate. From my own experience as a glider pilot and drug developer I can tell you that physiology plays a key role in this. My tips: make sure that 1) your stomach is NOT empty. An empty stomach comes up with stupid ideas when flying. 2) you are optimally hydrated. 3) you avoid alcohol, opiates, cannabis and other psychoactive substances. 4) your electrolyte, glucose and vitamin levels are normal 5) you are not stressed out or tired. You might also try different times of day for your flying session. You could try to smoothen the accommodation period by moderate doses of oral histamine blockers. I'd start with chewing gum formulations. They will make you tired but are the most effective drugs against motion sickness, which is caused by histamine release in your brain. Salute! 2
Avimimus Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Before you give up entirely - I would recommend trying it with just a monitor. Honestly, Great Battle and Flying Circus do not have the best 'padlock view' (the original Il-2 1946 implementation was more sophisticated and usable) - but I have found considerable joy at times flying these aircraft with just the joystick 'hat'. I realise that WWI combat often involves sharp disorienting turns, but the flight modelling is such that one needn't fly in combat to get a lot out of the simulation - and there are also two seaters which are less focused on dogfighting. 2
firdimigdi Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Another thing to look at which can be nausea inducing is the camera shake effect, it's under Settings > Camera. Generally anything that moves the view when you are not expecting it to move can have that effect, it makes your inner ear go haywire - FPS games are notorious for inducing such for some people through their head bobbing animations. 1

I don't see where a VR headset is mentioned, if my assumptions are correct he is an old RoF player, has been away many years. I would say a trip to the physician or optometrist (or both) may be in order. Your suggestion to contact support is the valid response, as is the Camera Effect above (is that on by default?) as he also wants to get RoF running again using his old plane set and has issues there also, though I don't see why that would cause any less motion sickness... michaelws Posted November 7, 2022 Author Posted November 7, 2022 Thanks for all the replies. I have tried with just the monitor. Same thing. I'm just a woos I guess. At my age, I am not that depressed about it. I am a bit upset that I haven't heard a peep from IL-2 that they even received my request. So I guess that's just going to be $70 down the drain. Lesson learned. I am not a fan of companies that have poor to little customer support. Thanks folks...especially Gary for all the support he has given me on the forums.
Zooropa_Fly Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Give them a little time, there's some heavy stuff been going on at board room level lately ! Customer support here is usually very good. But what the hell, keep at it for a bit longer, you might just get over it. S!

michaelws Posted November 7, 2022 Author Posted November 7, 2022 Update. I don't want to leave this having cast a negative on IL-2. I just got an email stating that I have been granted a refund. Thanks again to all! Happy flying! 1 2

He's not meaning to be negative. All of us here follow religiously a similar regime to that which you suggest. That is why motion sickness is a very rare occurrence here. I believe Al is referring to the War Thunder forums, if my electrolyte levels inform me correctly? I'd better check them.
