P51B scripted Normandy campaign

This is my first attempt at a scripted campaign.

" P-51B's over the channel"

It's a totally non-historical, start in the air 8 mission campaign with a variety of objectives that get more difficult as they go on.

Made with Vanders awesome easy mission generator and modified pretty heavily by me. All the missions are set up for objective success before landing so if you have to bail out or crash/force land you will still succeed in your mission.

Enjoy!

have it sorted out now.

enjoy!

Nice, I'll be checking this one out this week. Than you.

Thank you for putting this campaign together - however I'm stuck on the first mission!

I've now flown it 3 times, on the 3rd attempt carefully overflying the target area some half a dozen times.  Although I have twice received the message to resume my course and continue the mission, I've had no specific indication that my photography has been successful, and having landed got the message 'mission failed'.  What am I doing wrong?

You have to make sure that you're above 7,000 ft or so when you make your photographic run and a message will tell you to fly straight and level for 10 seconds.

Spoiler: there is a reconnaissance aircraft that must be downed on your return to your home airfield. I hinted at the reconnaissance aircraft in the pre-mission briefing. Hope this helps.

I wish there would be a second version with also taxi and takeoff.
For me the excitment of taxiing and taking off is on the same level as fighting and landing.

Anyway, thanks for the campaign. Will try it out

Agreed. My original aim, as I am not so good with the mission editor, was to make something with the channel map and complete the campaign in roughly 2-2.5 hours.

I will definitely try a second campaign with taxi and start off added in.

I'm glad you like it.

It's a 2 out of 10 when compared to other scripted campaigns made by competent people!

I'm a boob when it comes to the mission editor but I'm learning!

It’s still more than I have done myself. So thanks again

Thanks.  I had a lot of fun making it. It was a challenge for me.

Can someone show me the correct install path for this download, I have tried to install directly into the root folder [ IL-2 Sturmovik battle of Moscow] and also into campaigns but it's not showing in either?

Cheers

I don't know if it's correct, but my path is IL-2 Sturmovik/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/IL-2 Sturmovik BOS/data/Campaingns and it works great

If all else fails you can extract it to your desktop, open it up to the last folder with all the mission files inside, then navigate to your Main game folder and copy and paste that folder into your campaigns folder.

Thanks for your great campaign.  But I cannot accomplish mission-07, I cannot find any submarine in the combat area.  Could you tell me

how to get the submarine appear?

Billsponge1972

Haven't played that one in a while but if I remember correctly you have to watch your map and the sub is at the edge of the search area towards the French coast.

I got it.  I've accomplished the mission. Thanks!

Just downloaded and installed the campaign into JSGME so I can move it in to the game whenever I want to play it.

I am so glad you did not have the mission description hidden or locked because I was able to edit (the English version anyway) the mission descriptions for each mission.  Since the mission description only had metric unit parameter I added the standard measurements for outside air temperature (°F ), wind speed (ft/s and MPH), altitude (ft) most notably so you don't have to calculate the altitude while flying the missions.  US manufactured aircraft had gauges in MPH and Feet although temperatures were in °C for which I assume the reason to be for more precise monitoring of the power plant.

I know you said the campaign is non-historical.

Just so I know, are the missions in the campaign progression supposed to be in chronological order by date (earliest to latest).  I noticed the very first mission (Recon) is 02JUN1944 yet the second, third etc. are May1944.

Is the campaign designed to work (backwards latest to earliest) in time?

Is it designed to jump around in time?

All these are good questions. Truth be told, I'm a fairly poor mission builder! I made tons of mistakes which you are more than welcome to correct and even upload your own version. I will gladly ditch mine as It's one of my earliest endeavors.

I have never used the mission editor so I don't even know where to begin.

Mission 01 Armed Reconnaissance & Mission 02 Destroy Coastal Radar North of Le Touquet went smoothly.

Mission 03 Escort B25s to the Calais Rail yard has the P-51Bs carrying rocket tubes while escorting the B-25Ds.  Nothing in the mission brief refers to the rocket tubes and if we are to attack any installation and no enemy aircraft show up to warrant jettisoning them.

Mission 04 Combat Patrol has a pair of JU-88's being shot down by a Typhoon's patrol away from the patrol area and the FW-190's never take off, one sits at the runway engine running while the other two crash when taxiing.

Have you tried re-saving the campaign in the mission editor?

This is a pretty old campaign and also my first.

I'm not sure why I added the rocket tubes to the mustangs. Maybe for a little strafing fun?

I had decided to finish all of the official scripted US and RAF campaigns which explains the almost 1 year delay between downloading and playing your campaign.  I just commenced playing it.  I edited the English description to include both imperial and metric measurements for wind speed, altitude, temperature etc. in all of the missions since everything except temperature gauges is in imperial measurements.

Mission 3: Making a strafing run would make sense.  I can edit the description to add a rocket attack and tell my wingmen to attack the ground targets, hopefully AAA before the B-25s arrive.

Mission 4: This is the problem child, haven't gone on to mission 5 yet.  The pair of 410's (erroneously called them JU-88's in original post) attack near Folkstone and get intercepted by Typhoon patrol.  At the airfield with the 3 FW-190 attackers and 109 escort who are supposed to attack Dover is the big problem.   I have run this mission several times and depressed Ctrl + F2 keys several times to observe what is happening at the German airfield.

At the start of the mission the Attacker FW s have their engines running and sit there.  Shortly before the attackers move the 109 escort starts its engine and begins to taxi (kind of erratic btw).  As it weaves along the left side of the taxiway and gets near attacker 3, attacker 1 pulls out and begins to taxi.   As the escort starts moving in behind attacker 1 different things happen each time I run the mission.  Most times attacker 2 starts moving and the escort weaves left and the two collide.  Other times the escort and number 2 attacker scrape each other and continue only to have the escort taxi up and chop off the vertical stabilizer of attacker 1.  Attacker 1 continues to the takeoff position and the escort follows, does not stop and starts chewing up attacker 1 who is waiting for attacker 2 and 3 to get into position.  Both the escort and attacker 1 are damaged, engines stop and attacker 2 and 3 just sit behind them.  If attacker one makes it to the takeoff position unscathed it sits there waiting for attacker 2 and 3 who never get there with attacker attacker 2 and the escort collided which then blocks attacker 3 who does not taxi around the escort and attacker 2.  The escort appears to be the one that initiates the collisions each time.

I will try to resave the mission in the editor.  Other than that I don't know how to access anything.  I had created a couple of practice missions when I first got the game to familiarize my self with takeoff and landing missions (especially for the Mosquito) for the allied aircraft, but that was a long, long time ago.  And I haven't opened the editor since then until today just to see the starting positions of the aircraft at that German airfield.

Before trying your suggestion and resaving mission 4 in the editor, I re-ran mission 3 escorting the B-25's to bomb the railyard facilities just to see if there were any enemy fighters in the mission.   I used Ctrl + F2 to check if enemy fighters were in the mission and behold two 109's one as escort, the other as fighter.   They collide when taxing.  Occasionally it is a glancing blow and they both take off.  Most times the collision is catastrophic and the two planes disable each other.

That sucks.

The campaign was made mostly with an early version of EMG. The myriad of changes to newer versions and updates to the game have probably messed with things negatively. I am away from the game today but tomorrow I will take a look and see if I can fix anything.

Ok, I spent some time on mission 3 and 4 trying to fix the enemy AI with varying success. I just don't have the mission editor skills or it could be mission logic changes from 2 years ago (quite a few updates and newer versions of EMG).

Any ideas would be welcome. I will look at the other missions soon.
