[CPT]Crunch Posted October 31, 2022 Posted October 31, 2022 Whats it suppose to do on the Fw-190F-8 bombs, I see no discernible difference in drops between that mode and release all. If it's functional as is, what was their point in wasting wiring and a switch, or maybe its not working? 1
AEthelraedUnraed Posted October 31, 2022 Posted October 31, 2022 70ms would make little discernible difference to the human eye. However, flying at normal bombing speeds of ~400-500kph, it would make the bombs hit their target 8-10m apart. With normal bomb blast radii, this would effectively double the covered area of the bombs rather than double the concentrated explosive power like you would if you drop them simultaneously. No idea actually, but this at least seems like a plausible explanation to me ?
Wardog5711 Posted October 31, 2022 Posted October 31, 2022 Is that feature only for the wing mounted bomb racks? On modern MER's, TERs etc. the control unit has the capability to release stores at a 35MS intervals to allow them to clear the rack without colliding with each other. If you have side by side bomb racks under the wings, I could see that being a similar function. But I'm just guessing.
[CPT]Crunch Posted October 31, 2022 Author Posted October 31, 2022 Slowing the speeds down guess one can see they're actually rippling in pairs under 70ms setting, outer wing pair first, but its rapid. If your dropping from level up at 3000 feet you can sort of see a spread on the ground. It's probably the missing randomness of the air flow and drag effects per individual bomb that limits the desired effect and spread. They fly formation all the way down keeping in a perfect stable station. Was kind of expecting a little bit more of a spread at lower levels, hard to see a usable or practical difference for close in strike. 1
Avimimus Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 In my experience it makes a significant difference in effectiveness - as it means the bombs land in a line (which compensates for errors in the timing release), rather than landing all in the same place. The 70ms delay isn't that noticeable if one is flying slowly or in a dive - but so long as one isn't doing either of those things it produces a useful salvo/train of bombs. The trick is to be flying very fast and level (or pulling up) at the time of release. 2
