Whilst setting convergence, on this sim, does it also change the elevation ?

Setting convergence is both horizontal and vertical.

You are basically setting a point harmonization. And this statement will open a whole can of worms but there it is...........

A point of harmonization, I am not familiar with that term. Please explain? Something to do with setting up multiple guns?

I'm not meaning to open that can of worms, just getting my gunnery tweaked a bit. So, a longer convergence will change one's lead compared to a shorter one. I thought that's what was going on, makes sense.

Thank you,

MisterSmith's programming is haywire again. He's responding like a real person instead of a heartless enforcer of tyranny.

Bad Smith! Bad! Wrongthink!

The purists here will vomit at the mere mention of a Wikipedia link, but I think it's adequate for an explanation here:

This is a commonly used diagram showing point versus pattern harmonization:

In the game the stream of bullets, from all guns,  meet in the gunsight at the "convergence range". That means that horizontally they all meet in the center at that range and in vertical, the guns shoot up and then bullets fall back down, through the line of sight at the same "convergence".

In reality, everyone experimented with different versions of gun harmonization and conversion, based on the particularities of their weapons setup.

Most of the continental Europeans settled to point conversion, because they used less bigger guns, closer to center and harmonization didn't do much for them.

Americans liked "pattern harmonization", because they had many guns, far apart on the wings and they wanted to extend the zone where guns shoot in the center, like in  oc2209s drawings.

Interesting enough, the Romains tried both with he IAR-80/81. The early, rifle caliber versions of the plane used pattern harmonization, with the guns converging from 200 to 500 meters, and once they installed heavier weapons, (13.2mm and 20mm), they switched to point convergence at 250m.

Does anybody know wether the convergence setting sets the peak of the ballistic curve or the first crossing point? Or even the second?

For example German MGFF were haromized so that the projectiles would cross the line of sight the first time at 200m (climbing) and the second time at roughly 400m (falling).

Somebody in some earlier thread said that it is the second crossing point, except for Ju-87G version, where it is the first crossing point, due to the guns being so much below the gunsight.

And now for s***s and giggles... go have a look at CLoD where you can set each individual guns horizontal and vertical range, and mess it up so badly that you can let loose all your vengeance and not be able to hit the side of a barn at 20 paces ?
