Voyager Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 Been getting back into things with the P-47, and is it just me or does the D-22 seem to start quick missions with its engine oil hotter than the D-28 and have a harder time keeping the oil cool? Is this just an illusion caused by the different gauges? Or was there a change in the oil cooling design between the two models? Thank you, Harry Voyager
1CGS LukeFF Posted October 29, 2022 1CGS Posted October 29, 2022 Same engine, same starting oil temperature on both planes.
354thFG_Panda_ Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 (edited) It may be due to the different propellers. The d28 has those inner sections that help with flow into the intake. I noticed the d28s cooling is slightly better most of the time despite being slower with less air going in. It may be a placebo though. Edited October 29, 2022 by theRedPanda 1

RyanR Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 Different gauges. Ironically, I found I was having trouble keeping the oil *warm* in the P-47 at higher altitudes. -Ryan 2
RossMarBow Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 I either forget to open the oil radiator or open it to 5% 50% is best for aerodynamics Never had oil overheating issues
