While I understand the reason(s) why and do respect that moderating on a case-by-case basis is a bit of pain in the backside, can those of us who haven't violated the forum rules have our signatures back?   The (much) greater majority of the forum community have not mis-used the signature feature and it would be a nice re-instatement for us.

I ask you to consider it.  If you answer yes or no, I understand.  If no, I accept that a deeper explanation is not required.

Thanks for your time.   o7

Oh my god, I was actually on coms with you once, man, so I know you’re for real.  Out of all the obvious existential angst going on in this particular community, and you want a better sig?

Lol, this forum has nothing on the IL2 subreddit. That place is a toxic wasteland.

Really?   I didn't say anything about a "better sig".  I simply asked if the sigs of those who didn't violate rules  (including you, AFAIK)  that we used to have, could be reinstated.

If you want to get personal, get a bigger boat.

I had a Hell Hawks trailer link in my signature which actually benefited the Devs (not me, I've already been paid) and even that is gone...now you want your useless, no benefit to anyone sig back? lol

No offense, sigs are nice and all...just struck me as funny for a thread topic etc.

My condolences for your bitterness.

Maybe it's possible that the sigs that were already there were not erased.  Maybe your link will still be there.

Not bitter my friend. If you read my post you'll see it had no effect on me, but rather the Devs themselves...that was my point. :)

In any case, I think it would be great if sigs came back but it's probably a bit early for that all things considered. If anything the reasons they were pulled are getting more acute.

I didn't ask with any pre-conceived outcome in mind except that it couldn't hurt to ask.  Turns out the first responses I get hit with are "we (certain members of the community) are going to MAKE it hurt to ask."

Sorry to disappoint but, that's not a 'lesson' I'm ever going to learn.

I'm throwing you a pity upvote. I think they're being a little harsh.

Truth is, most of the people who would've 'caused trouble' due to 'certain geopolitical events' have already left the forums in protest. Or at least it seems so.

The rest of us are okay with simulating a dead world war while a live one is brewing. Using a game forum to protest things already in motion that are far beyond anyone's control here, seems like the definition of futility.

Exactly.  99% of the forum members used the sigs to add links to useful information, videos or just a bit of innocuous humor.  I'm pretty confident that most people only intend to do just that and nothing else.

I suppose it may come down to moderator workload. They can monitor new posts for prohibited content, but if someone puts such content in their sig, it appears in all of the posts they ever made and they don't even have to make a new post.

I used to put my system specs in my sig in case I needed technical help.

I did account for that in the original post.  IDK if individual sigs can be 'turned off' or if it is an all or nothing type of thing.  If it is a case-by-case thing, I'm willing to gamble that violations would be few and far between.  Obviously, a 100% compliance rate is unlikely but, I still asked on the hope that the mod staff would being willing to chance that fools would not be all that common.

I doubt that it could have been a moderators' decision; I'm sure it would need to have been someone on the payroll.

Follow the money, Woodward!  Maybe it’s a slush fund for the old men in a mahogany-lined, smoke filled room, drinking brandy.

?

Edit…it was probably Jason himself a few months back, but who cares who made the policy?  It’s a dumb thread.

I'd just about agree about not allowing certain things in signatures and avatars, but maybe people wouldn't feel the need if there was somewhere to discuss 'P' in the not so Free section of the forum.

The fact that it's ingrained in most modern cultures that 'P' isn't allowed to be discussed by us serfs is a big reason for the crap show we live in today.

Of course this is run by a private company so they can do whatever they like, but why not be brave and give us a 'P' section.

Why not ?

A free society should be discussing such things.

The no politics rule isn't going anywhere, anytime soon. And that rule has been in place on pretty much every gaming forum I still frequent for years.

Especially the ones owned by the company producing the product.

I personally do not care what anyone else's political beliefs are as long as they leave me and everyone else the hell alone. But many people these days cannot seem to accept a difference of opinion without it becoming their personal crusade to change minds or remove any countering viewpoints from existence.

This site exists to support a primarily WWII based game. Current geopolitics, identity politics or anything else that doesn't have to do with flying or tanking need to go somewhere else.

As long as it doesn't lead to horror coast denial.

ZF, as entertaining as this forum can be, it already borders enough on the insane as it is, without having to hear about peoples’ frequently wacky politics.

My situation is brisket and biscuits all day long, thanks for asking.  I'm not complaining about or protesting the sig ban.  I know it's reeeeeaaaaallllllyyyy  hard to believe because I would benefit too (God forbid) but, I truly did only ask because I thought it would be a nice thing for the community at large.  The initial reaction I get however, is BBQ wants ego stroke.

Apparently, it comes down to this:  Everybody has an ego, much more so those who claim they don't.  Some of us simply by being who we are threaten egos and that's a no-no.

It's ok if you think that's funny. Now "Smile, you son of a ........"

Sigs were a top down decision. I have no control and no more input on this than any other member of these forums.

What nonsense and what a good example of why we don’t need a ‘P’ section on a flightsim forum.

Good luck with whatever lunacy you believe in but I’m not interested in reading about it here thanks.

Fair enough.  I'll leave it to you if the thread is to be closed or not.

It didn't hurt to ask.  That's all I intended.   Thanks.

Before certain events, we had signatures that we could use.  Some users decided to use the sigs to voice their politics, which is a violation of the forum rules.  A few bad apples spoiled the bunch - so to speak, and now we don't have sigs anymore.

Shouldn’t that be “a few bad apples spoiled the peck or a few bad bananas spoiled the bunch”? How many apples does it take to make a bunch?

Probably about as many crows as it takes to make a murder.

Not really much, I imagine. In every forum I've been a member of, I've always turned them off, because for the most part they're just a waste of space I have to scroll past.

I assure you, I wasn't among those who caused the sigs to get turned off.  I can only assume that you're trying to sneak a personal attack in here.  THAT is against forum rules. For one who has such a "venerated" and long-running account, I suggest you tread lightly. ?

Say WHAT?? :o:

Actually, I don't do sigs, as they do tend to be an ego thing. The pic of the "Harley" is only because it is actually a WWII military bike that served on the African Front and a simple avatar is enough.
