Jets are boring?

Ask most of the Reno Air Racers, and that is what they will tell you.

Best race I was surprised to find...Texans.

Everyone else was a Formula 1 style single file progression.

As in the T6 Texan? Harvard's? That would've been crazy to watch.... bet it was bloody noisy ?

Only went to one air race in my life, when I was a kid.  I remember a Hawker Sea Fury won. Or maybe it was a Corsair.  But they had the whole line up of things, and then parked them, and I’d never seen a real one in my life until then.

why not Korea

If nothing else, it's that they said that the next module will be piston engine based and also will not take place in the pacific. Although with a bit of stretching, Korea could be "piston engined" and also "pacific", it'd take an unhealthy amount of stretching to take both.

Yep...they're so slow compared to the other classes, but they're in view for longer on each lap, and they were swapping positions.

The unlimited aircraft were fun to watch though...

We know they aren't doing the PTO. I'd be surprised if they touch Blitz or Tobruk. The sim so far covers two scenarios:

1. Western Front ETO

2. Eastern Front.

There are two scenarios left big enough to base two full new titles on that they haven't covered yet:

1. Channel Front 1941-1943.

2. Late War Eastern Front.

They could spend the next 4 years on those and fill in tons of collector aircraft and tanks that could also fit into scenarios and maps that have already been done. They could do Nonstop Offensive (or Nonsense Offensive, depending on your POV), they could do Tip and Run, Dieppe, Channel Dash, Courland Pocket, Seelow Heights, Balaton, Ploesti etc etc.

It doesn't make any sense to me to invest a decade of programming and development only to wander off, leave it all behind and do something as uninteresting as Korea. (Yawn)

I still think the med could get a look... italy/Malta

Arguably Malta should include at least one carrier, but could easily be done without

Perhaps with Jason gone they can lift thier strict tech data limits and just do the PTO with whatever is available. WT does it. Il2 1946 did it. MSCFS2 did it. Warbirds did it. DCS might/can do it.

Il2GB can do it too.

Forum Legends about engine limitations are just that. Forum legends. You can hear it from the horses mouth in the interview.

We’ve debunked that “legend” right here more times than I can count.

More people hang on the the belief that it’s a belief than actually believe it I think.

I agree with your stance on engine limitations. Forum talk about engines and how IL2 should switch to Unreal 5 or something is usually done by people who barely know what an engine even is. The current engine supports what the Devs program it to support; it'll be exactly that in whatever engine they use, and you can bet on it that the IL2 engine works better for combat flight sims than Unreal 5 (or similar) does without a ginormous amount of re-writing. Yes, with slight stretching of their standards as to how much guesswork is acceptable for (Japanese) aircraft or the level of detail they'll be able to put into carriers, I'm absolutely positive they could do a Pacific module.

However, the Devs (separately from Jason) already said the very next module won't be Pacific based.

IMHO under the circumstances : "Russia based" would be the better guess (?).

Anyway, the engine and choices until this day have been logical.

Whatever happens ... I just wish IL-2 Servers will keep running, that is my only wish (or even ... fear).

Even when Jason was still there, Russia was never completely out of the picture and a 1944/1945 Eastern Front module has always ranked high in the list of modules considered the most likely by the community.

However, the Devs also hinted the next module will bring something completely new, and I don't see how another Eastern Front module would be "completely new" if the map is similar to existing maps of the USSR/Germany and the planes are all basically improved versions of planes we've already got.

For my sake I would enjoy winter war and continuous war in Finland and north front if it had to be eastern front. A Berlin scenario I would not touch with a long beam.
Based on what they said, I can only conclude Italy balkans Greece

I actually always hoped for a Korea map. Early jets, piston fighters, would have been cool. I believe Jason always wanted to do it but now he's gone I'll be surprised if we see it.
A missed opportunity.

Whatever comes next, its basically up to us the community and the developers to decide.
I am very passionate about this game and have great respect for the work they done so far. bought all the modules for the announcement price (for friends and my son).
Just to get that cash flowing into development.
This game does something right that no other game or sim in history did right, crashing was never so much fun and real war is far more deadly than promoted.

Yes we will will miss Jason (somehow i have a gut feeling what he is up to), but dont forget he was the face towards us (english speakers) and the team could get new oppertunities in dark times.

Dark times gave us the spit , the me262, the tempest , the p51 , lets see which propellor flowers will bloom.

Hopefull

Here's a thought... can the GB series survive if only Russia was the place they could sell it?

The engine have it's technical limitation for different reasons,  mostly for performance I think.  The height map is limited,  so you can't make very accurate landscapes. Engine can't do structures under  ground level,  like trenches. Engine can't model aldis throw cockpit glass etc.  There are more but all those can be done if code changes , as they say by game engine evolution. Maybe someday engine will be capable to put carriers in it.

Why on earth are people speculating on the next iteration in the series when there are so many things outstanding in terms of both enhancements, major releases and bug fixes? The mind boggles at how often there are speculative threads about whether we'll see the next theature in russia, italy, the pacific, korea, when we still have FC2, FC3 and FC4 already comitted to and unreleased, FM/DM issues in FC that need fixing and collector planes waiting to be released.

I say let the teams focus on getting things they have already comitted to out the door, screw the next theature until then.

Rather selfishly I want to fly my SE5 without its wings coming off due to a passing pidgeon farting on it and fly around a map that I paid for months ago.

Agreed, but not unlike DCS ... that will not generate a lot of income.

IMHO Only (EA) 'new' stuff can probably look after that.

Yes, many things need to be finished, and many things need fixing... but that won't pay the bills unfortunately.

In the previous interview they have already chosen the next module and started work on it and apparently they are excited about it...

If that was the case then the next module will definitely be Eastern Front.

I'd like to first and foremost state that I fully believe in the Devs' capability as well as intentions to expand and improve this wonderful product. I don't doubt that they want to make IL2 a wonderful game that is enjoyed by players around the world, regardless of location or nationality. I'm similarly certain that the team is capable to continue the current high quality standards of their products in any future modules they'll make.

However, real life sometimes gets in the way of good intentions.

I would like some clarifications on the current status of IL2 BoX. Since Jason Williams left and 777 Ltd. is owned by him, is IL2 still owned by the joint venture 1C-777 Ltd. or did 1C become the sole proprietor of IL2?

If there were any changes in the ownership, how will this affect customers in the EU/UK/US/rest of the world? Considering 1C is under sanctions from at least some European countries and in relation to this has removed access to some of its games for Western customers in the past, how will Jason's departure affect our ability to enjoy both the current game as well as purchase and play future modules? Given that the answer to similar questions during and after February 2022 has been "1C-777 Ltd is a multinational team based in Cyprus", is this answer still valid today?

I hope the Devs can take away some of my anxiety, which is undoubtedly shared by others in the community.

I think as I assume what is a significant number of us have money invested in products we have paid for upfront and are waiting on delivery of, perhaps deserve some sort of statement from someone who knows what is going on to reassure us all and put all this guess work that is flying around the forums to bed once and for all. Keeping silent now I don't think is doing anyone any good.

I am going out on a limb a d think it will be an Eastern Front expansion.

The one after that though I reckon will be The Pacific.

I just wonder if, as Jason was agai St the Pacific.... now he's gone, maybe it will be put back on the table?

He also seemed not to be fond of infantry. Time to put also this on the table with a complete set of poses motions and uniforms.

As well as to update previous ship models and man all those guns like for Normandy.

As far as I could see then Jason was very much interested and pushing for the Pacific, but big boys in Moscow were most probably against it.

Could also be that sober business case was against it, but Jason definitely seemed to be fan of the Pacific.

Its hard to ignore the effect that the war in Ukraine may be(probably?) is having on this team and series.  Who knows if it had anything to do with Jason leaving but its a pretty big elephant in the room.  I can't imagine I'm the only one thinking this.

I've been flying IL-2 since 02 and the current GB series is the best WW2 flight sim ever made imo.  I hope continued success and stability is still possible going forward.

Hmmm. Interesting. Young Smithy gave me a week's ban back in May for theorizing about 1C and it's operations in the current political climate; now these same ideas and speculations are being posted with apparent impunity. So, if the moderating stance has changed can I please get rid of my avatar? Because if heads are no longer in the sand then it's not needed any more.

Hello Pilots,

I know that there is a great deal of uncertainty for some of you as to the future of the IL-2 franchise. I will try to help ease some of that anxiety.

First and foremost, as he mentioned in his video, Jason actually left 1CGS back in late summer. BON was released on time and all the Collector Planes, Vehicles and modules with preorders started will be completed and released.

1CGS is still producing hardcore flight sims and Jason's departure doesn't affect the development schedule in any way.

Moreover, the development of the next project has already started as it was stated several times in Russian and English interview and podcast.

More info on the next development cycle will be shared in our Dev Blogs, streams etc.

And for those concerned about current events affecting anything, it does not. 1CGS is not affected by any sanctions.

And there will be a stream event in the near future with the development team that should provide much more detail on the path forward. The exact date is still TBD based on production completion.
