And again, in enigma video they say airplanes are bigest performanc eaters, and even question why servers dont reduce slots for airplanes if they wont more active ground war... so there is clear disconect, they think there is no big problem and we can just adjust, and we think there is a problem... i do not see anything changing then.

I want to say that FM isn't only performance eater and it's quite obvious in the game?‍♂️

Bigger battle scenarios would be welcome, as well bigger bombers (medium at least), weapons(torpedos) and theatres of war (PTO).

As a customer for me ideal would be if they went like this from the start;

1.BoS

2.BoN

3.BoMidway/Solomons/Colaral sea //PTO//

Diversity in enviroment and theatre providing variety in gameplay

Planeset:

1. One fighter for each side

2. One attacker for each side

3. One bomber for each side

Again variety of tools provides variety in gameplay, not 24 variants of yak, 109, 190 and spits.

If we could have an Airplane Beauty Contest (wwii) , the Catalina would be  on the podium .....

In the category of most personalised/recognisable  the F4 U,  Dora, P51 bubble

In Heavies the B17 etc...

Every one could create is dream team : it's tax free ?

Always how they say is right - right? - you can't even see the Code or the data for self-conviction. BTW WW1-planes in FC Volume I/II are already the biggest performance eater but hey WW2 - planes are a lot more complex than WW1 - planes.............................

I can easy test it by having clean mission and start adding airplanes and see where game cracks, and then compare that to just ground units. But why bather if devs mineds are set that there is no problem and we should just use less airplanes. Its pointles.

Except that it isn't Italy, and at least one plane is already in development.

This must be one of the funniest arguments ever. CloD had one flyable Italian fighter (1938 version of G.50) and one bomber (Br.20), so Italian planes have already been done. What has not been done yet, are Easten Front planes. Right? It is time we finally get some Yaks, Lavochkins, Ishaks, Migs, Ilyushins and Petlyakovs and some versions of 109's and 190's.

Just to correct you, CLoD has CR.42, G.50, MC.202, BR.20 and Stukas with Italian skins. Stop with misinformation.

Eastern front has so much possibility, so this is what I'm hoping for with new wonder aircraft as we've gotten with Schwalbe, Arado.

And now we wait some more, and keep speculating...

This was definitely a bit deflating. We already knew that they were continuing to work on future projects given Han's post about preparing for PTO. It was safe to assume that work would continue to improve the engine at the very least - with the new announcement, it's not clear whether that's what is happening or they're doing a brand new engine - there was speculation about that before, and the speculation will continue the same now.

And then there's the map - I don't think I was alone misreading this announcement focus on revealing the next battle; maybe I shouldn't have been, but it could have been good to let us know in this thread that we'd have to wait longer for that.

Anyway, I'm happy that IL2 goes on in one way or another. Personally I hope we're staying a bit more on this engine, mostly because I'd like to see more FC planes come out and also because current IL2 is good for VR and I can see myself flying it for years to come, especially with the PTO coming.

*edit* it looks like they've already confirmed that it's not a brand new engine. That sounds good to me. Hopefully it means backward compatibility with FC and the previous battles will continue.

Honestly don’t care too much what the next module is anymore, except for the sake of curiosity and conversation.  It’s so far off anyway.  Several years from now, if I’m still alive and kicking, still interested in IL-2, and there is a newly released module, then I’ll see if it’s actually interesting enough to buy.

So............................................................

We really need to get back to enjoying the game and making the most of it, including the classics that came out of it.

I can only hope we get a re-mastered version of this sort of gold!
Oh, the memories.
And the current development team deserve every respect and credit for their efforts in the latest developments.
Thank you.

A really good short campaign could be built around the air defense of Rangoon in late December, 1941, by the AVG and RAF against the Japanese Army Air Force.

At no time during these engagements did the combined Allied air forces ever put up anywhere near 50% of the numbers they were facing, yet by the time that Mingaladon airfield had to be abandoned because of advancing Japanese ground forces, the AVG and RAF achieved a very positive K/D ratio, flying against the well trained and more experienced Japanese Army pilots.

The AVG used the early P40, and the RAF fighters were mostly Brewster Buffalos and a few Hawker Hurricanes.

The Japanese Army Air Force fighters mostly were Ki-27 Nates, with a few Ki-43 Oscars that were used to escort Ki-21 twin engine bombers and Ki-27 single engine attack aircraft.

........Oh, the memories.

Thanks for this and to all who maintain memory of good things of the past.....

One thing I never understand is why so many good games ( wargames, etc...included ) were simply thrown away : 1946, RoF, Steel Panther, EAW, Great Naval Battles, .......so many games discarded instead of being improved !

1946 includes almost all the planes we sought after, research was done, graphics was done, they fly and play but NEW game is much better when it  replaces 99 planes by 22 ?????  .....and my full collection of Rof  WWI is obsolete with a handful of NEW  wonders ??????

Sorry for being negative , I'm really too old to appreciate something just because it is NEW ....?

I do understand and appreciate your point.   Old games, were and still are great games.  Sure they could revise the code to run on modern computers.  Good old games (GOG) has made some old forgotten titles work on modern computers.  WOFF has turned MSCFS 3 into a remarkable WW1 sim.  But....there's no money in it.   Development of computer games is expensive.  People generally won't spend the money on something old.  At least not in large enough numbers to make it a worthwhile effort.  Even when someone does revise and old game, it's graphics, etc can't compete with games Developed using new technology.  Could the old games be reworked?  Sure they could.  But it's kinda like rebuilding an old car.  In the end , it's cheaper to just make a new one, and the new one has more features, and the advantage of having technology that is more efficient.

You hit the point !

I 'm well aware of the improvements in graphism, speed, endless possibilities of new lines of computers, with a long list of WIN 3.0, 3.1, 1992, Vista,XP,   etc...with glamorous games abismally much more gorgeous than their ancestors; it is reality .........

What worries me is I still have shelves full of old games ( since APPLE IIe ) , I have old compis, screens, cables, mouses,  bits and pieces, all to be discarded....

I just see now that the staff is going to  "modernize"  IL2, which means probably need a new computer,  with a new WIN 11, 12,  ???  when I think we are now " state of the Art " and I ask nothing more than some refinements  and additional items to expand what runs so well ...

Instead we go probably to a batch of " collectors"  Spit XXXIV, BF 109XYZ, etc... which will make IL 2 even more expansive,  worth XXX ????

Yes, it is money : well, human being was going from cold to fire wood, then stove and coal, then heater and Oil,  then electricity, now Nuclear .......All much better -I agree- and now , what ????  WINTER  IS  COMING , and we could be soon returned to candles and fires _ at least those who survived ?

Sorry, I probably just watched too many TV  infos and I stop Philosophy !

I agree. Progress sometimes doesn't feel like progress in many aspects.  I don't understand completely the "if we survive" comment (i suspect it may be related to a topic we are forbidden to discuss here), but I sincerely hope you do survive winter, and are not forced to fires and candles for existence.

I don't understand people who want to stick with software from 10 years ago, with graphics and performance that make baby Jesus cry.

Sure if you want to wait another 10 + years. It is what it is, but if 1C walks away from GBS without really making the effort to correct the glaring problems like 777 did with ROF, then I am done with them. At least ED made the break to a new upgraded engine by incorporating all of there present modules and maps into the new/upgraded engine. Simply cut and run seems to be the way of most Devs and it leaves a lot of unfinished business in the old module IMHO.

OK they start it, it has great graphics (10%+ compared to GB), more complex FM DM (5%+)... less airplanes can be in mission as ppl how to week PC, after all they are making future game for future hardware... no Campaign or career, aftera all team needs to focus on new game engine and airplanes so ppl have something to fly... oh its only 6 airplanes insted 10 for ~100$ in 3 years time to make, team have to do extra work on airplanes because complexity and new FM/DM is now 98% accureate to data, insted 95%... PTO is in next DLC ...in next DLC...inone after this one...its coming...guys just buy 7th DLC and 8th one will be PTO... B-17 lol are you guys crazy we couldnt spend 2 years only on B-17 in previous game how can we do it in new more complex one...oh players are still playing old GB insted new game because its still good and have more airplanes and content, we better stop updating it or suporting it...

Yes great idea...

If they do make a new stand alone IL2, I'm banking on the hope they will continue to keep the existing content afloat, even after all the 'promised' content is delivered... I'd keep playing it if they manage more SP improvements.

It wouldnt make sense. Why dilute new sales by bringing improvements to products youve already gotten paid for and wont make any more from? Best you could surely hope for in that scenario is a depreciated product price point that attracts new players/completists to wring out of it every last penny on the understanding its sold as seen.

Well BOO, the new product may take god knows how long before it gets anywhere near release... they will have to do something to keep a revenue stream coming in.

Great idea, Count !

You just wrote the story of my  ( PC gamer ) life ......

How many times I wondered why I must change computer, learn new Window xxx, find NEW wonder game with less planes or maps just to win more colorful graphism with less brain, weak editor and reduced scope,

I'ld be really happy now if I could play a game on a WIN xx , on a computer running for ten years without perpetual "improvements"  ( in increasing benefits I guess ), until they fell down  !

so BoN is probably the last IL I'll add to my collection ?

thanks to things like PWCG, I am sticking with Il2 great battles for a while to come - honestly this, along with prepar3d, are the most 'recent' games i play, and since i only game for a few hours a week this will remain the case for years. i stay play and enjoy 1946. so i am hoping we get late war eastern front to finish the series. and im not buying a new computer just for eye candy ("people: hurrrrr dont be p0or"    "me:hurrrrrrdurrrrr not everyone is a single american with a disposable income durrrr")

that said its about $$$ so i understand the devs desire to stay up to date. afterall we went from rise of flight to great battles. now something else will come. but im hoping for one last great battles expansion (maybe to help the paychecks while the next new series is being developed)

Your logic is fine, up to this point.

You keep thinking that making a new game engine for the Pacific automatically means they're going to utterly abandon old BoX. I say they have no reason to, financially. It's basically a self-sufficient cash cow, provided they keep making planes for it.

They don't need a 50-man team to develop one game, when they've been making-do with 35-ish all this time.

10-15 guys can still make collector planes for old BoX and do minor bug fixing and adjustments. Just no new maps, and no more 10 vs 10 plane lineups. Big deal. Then the other 35-40 guys work on the new BoX.

They sell idea of ppl need new game to the boses, how can they explain that not many ppl are buying new game and are still playing old one, that need smaller staf, less expences.... why iphone slows down artificaly older phones ?  maintaining two games for same player base aint gona work, especialy when there is no big need or advances that can be made, i doubt were geting ms2020 level of ww2 sim. I ask in my local fish market and grannys like GB they dont need IL-2 "next level 5% beter". Lanching new game separate from IL-2 GB in todays wourld would be epic fail.

OC2209, This (like every Buisness ) is about Money. You say BOX is a Cash Cow ? How do you Know the Sales Figures and what are the Expected Sales Figures to make a profit ? ...What if a Manager wanted to Improve a Product that was Declining in Sales but it was his Passion for "HIS" product.... Listen to the Customers, Get rid of Bugs etc.

How Long before the Money People will wear this Loss ?

New Managment need to make more Money so Box is going in a different Direction. That is Not Conjecture. ~s~
