What a $hitshow Nvidia created with their new connectors.

Must be pulling some serious pixies from the GPO, (general power outlet).

I don't know what they were thinking. Asking that guage wire to carry that high wattage was just about a recipe for this to happen. The physics are what they are and that equals a heck of a lot of heat. I kind of saw this coming when I decided not to wait and got a 3080 instead! Even so it draws almost 400w on a TS run at stock.

Given the increasing number of reports on this issue and the potential for adverse consequences I have cancelled my RTX 4090 order for now.

I had the added consideration that my flight sim is located in a room with high ambient room temperatures during summer months and I am concerned about the additional risks associated with that even with an 'un-kinked' cable that already runs warm.

Will monitor the situation and see how NVidia responds. Running a Varjo Aero means that AMD graphics cards are not an option so cannot benefit from the new cards AMD is about to release.

Possibly the first first burnt connector with native ATX3.0 cable

Looks like it was from same brand MSI and the same distributor.  MSI is asking for both back, looks to be replacing.

I think i read that some owners/users are reducing power on their cards.  Der8bauer showed that you can do this with minimal performance loss.

Maybe this is a one off.  But, if I had a 4090, I would power limit for sure.

I undervolted my 3080 just because I didn't lose much if any performance by doing it and saved a few watts in the process. I can't imagine it'd be any different with the 40 series cards. But you shouldn't HAVE to do it to stop from burning your house down at worst or frying your build at best!

Where's a meme of Khan saying "FULL POWER DAMN YOU!!!"

LOl Thanks but I could only get halfway through that version!

Just read this on reddit.  Listen for the click.  But some folks don't hear the click or struggle to seat the connector properly.

The video by Ronaldo at teclab is interesting.

If this is the real issue, should a connector be this fiddly?
